I recently had a question asked about why people chose to move to the locations they did on arrival in colonies and what led people to choose areas to settle in. Does anyone know if the govt has any records or recommended employment to certain squatters etc? As few would be able to buy land immediately I would think. My answer to the first was that some newspapers in Uk ran adverts and people knew of others who had gone downunder, also on board ship I have heard of those in the know giving talks on the great southern lands and no doubt influenced people on where to go. Would be interested to hear others info on this. Some of ours were early settlers in the bellarine/geelong area and wonder why they chose this.? Linda
