Hi Susie, On seeing your mention of Keith Pescod's books, I just thought I'd add that my Great grandfather, Robert Beckett, was quoted from his account of the family's journey out to Melbourne, in both books. In fact, the title "Good food, bright fires & civility" is a direct quote. Beckett's diary is in the La Trobe Australian Manuscripts Collection at the State Library of Victoria, & I have yet to view it, although his other diary is in my possession at present. The diary of the voyage has been referred to by quite a number of authors, including Richard Broome's "Arriving", which you also mentioned. Cheers.....Wendy McLennan.
