A huge thank you to all who braved the hot weather to enjoy our Sporting Display today! Thank you especially to all those sporting clubs and historical groups who supported the day with amazing displays of memorabilia that normally does not see the light of day. Hopefully all sporting / interest clubs etc will find a member with a digital camera and a scanner to preserve their records, give a CD copy to the GHC and hopefully nominate a willing person to write up their club's history. We have all had a jolt of reality in Geelong recently with a huge fire that destroyed a shed where the Geelong Golf Clubs history was being stored - they were one of the first clubs in Australia, let alone Geelong, and now it has all gone.Ideally a wonderful new Sports Museum and Research Centre would be the answer - any councillors out there to push for this!!!! Again, many thanks, Pam Jennings (President, Friends of GHC)
The open day at Geelong Heritage Centre displaying the History of Sport in Geelong was simply terrific. Some marvelous artefacts such as the historic 'battered' cricket bat, the embroidered ties and the silver rose bowl trophy, quite wonderful to see. A very big effort to coordinate all those sporting clubs and congratulations to Pam and the Friends of the GHC for succeeding. How did Rod Charles manage to produce that booklet as well as everything else he does? I remember a sports exhibition to do with Geelong's Olympians opened by Geelong's athlete Lee Troop at the Wool Museum a while ago when the then Mayor Mr Peter Mullins undertook to form a Committee to plan for a Geelong Sports Museum. Does anyone know if this Committee exists? Jennifer >A huge thank you to all who braved the hot weather to enjoy our >Sporting Display today!
