Can someone please help me identify an Edmund DANIEL who married Harriet IRESON of Highton in 1884? I'm pretty sure he was the son of John DANIEL and Mary Jane NICHOLAS, whose marriage was registered in the Penzance district in the Dec quarter 1849. Edmund was probably born in Geelong in 1863, and died at the age of 35. The Iresons have a place in the story of the Highton Wesleyan church, and there are records of donations from a Mr Daniel, and also of buying various hardware items, kerosene, and so on, from someone of that name. Was this John DANIEL, ironmonger, of Moorabool St (see Brownhill)? And did he start out as a tinsmith in Newtown/Chilwell (see Seaton: MODEL BOROUGH)? I imagine THE GEELONG CORNISH pp 12, 13, & 15, and CORNISH BURIALS IN THE EASTERN CEMETERY pp 4 & 19, might be a great help here (God bless the Geelong Book Index!). But if anyone has a more personal line on this family and their connection with Wesleyanism, I'd be most grateful to learn of it. Thanks in advance Marion
Hello Marion, Edmund Daniel was the last born son of John Daniel (my Great grand father) with his first marriage to Mary Jane Nicholas as you say, and did marry Harriet Ireson in Geelong in 1885, and had six children before he died in 1898. JD was an Iron Monger and a tinsmith. He owned a building on the SW Corner of Moorabool St and Lt Ryrie St. I don't know how else I can help you at present but have just ordered John Daniels Will so maybe that will enlighten me on further history of the family. Unfortunately I know nothing about Harriet Ireson, other than she was born in 1864, where I know not, and died in Surrey Hills in 1940. If I can be of any further help please contact me. Cheers, Bill Willett. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Marion Stainsby" <[email protected]> To: "GEELONG List" <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, September 24, 2007 5:39 PM Subject: [GEELONG] DANIEL: John, Edmund > Can someone please help me identify an Edmund DANIEL who married > Harriet IRESON of Highton in 1884? Hello Friends, There was a John DANIEL who married a Mary Jane NICHOLAS on 19th. November 1849 in Madron, Cornwall. They did come to Australia because Mary Jane DANIEL died in Victoria in 1867, aged 42 years. I don't have any further info for them, but would be grateful for any that anyone else has as I am interested in all families from the west of Cornwall who came to Australia. Kindest Regards ......
