Hi Sherrie, Susan & Graham, many thanks for the Gillett information. 'My' Thomas' parents listed on the marriage cert dated 13/10/1879 are John Gillett and Jane Demick/Dermick, can't quite make it out (I suspect the John could well have been used instead of James - yes?) Now it seems from Susan's info, 'my' Thomas was the grandson of Jacob and Caroline, not a nephew. Help!! - I am having a very challenging day, so I may well be mis-understanding much of the detail. Graham, it looks like our families are not connected - yet! I do appreciate your offer to exchange info. Look forward to the next chapter on this elusive man in our family. He must have been a good chap really. He had eight children from his first marriage and when his wife died, there were five living, the youngest 18. then he took on two youngsters eight years and two years - (I'd have run for my life..........). thanks dorothy ~~~~~~~~~~~
Hi Dorothy, Okay, I'm confused. lol In your original email you said... 'Thomas Gillett, b: 1822, Drayton, Somersetshire, England.' snip He died in 1822 - I have yet to obtain this death cert.' As I could not find a death for 1922, I assumed it to be 1882, when Thomas Gillett (son of John Gillett & Mary Austin) died. However I see there is another 'Thomas' death in 1882. Is this your Thomas? Digger - Pioneer Index. Victoria 1836-1888 Surname: GILLETT Given Names: Thomas Event: D Spouse Surname/Father: John Spouse Gvn Names/Mother: Age: 60 Sex: Birth Place: Death Place: GEELONG Year: 1882 Reg Number: 8765 Denomination: Parish: Fiche: This may be your John & Jane's marriage in Somerset... JOHN GILLETT Spouse: JANE DIMOCK Marriage: 05 OCT 1808 - Kingsbury Episcopi, Somerset, England Your Thomas can't be the Grandson of Jacob & Caroline, as they didn't marry until 1870 Victoria. Kind regards, Sherrie.
