Bill, I'll scan my photocopies of the photos and send them off-list tomorrow - for tonight, my desk needs a major tidy-up before I get out more sheets of paper, and it's my bedtime. The originals are in our church archives, and have been cut down to fit into one of those mounts for bid occasions which have a lot of smaller photos around one big one. I don't know how much of their backing remains. Our layout person will be scanning them properly for the book. Robyn Gross sent me the following index entry: > Event: D > Surname: COOPER Given Names: John > Father: John > Age: 67 > Death Place: HTON Year: 1883 Reg Number: 1799 Wonderful! I thought. Here is information about a COOPER who definitely was in Highton! So I downloaded the image from the official website; and it was HAMILTON, not HIGHTON - the abbreviation is misleading. So my main hope now seems to lie in finding a descendant or relative around Benalla - preferably before the deadline for our book. THe COOPER daughter who married a TREWIN was called Carol or Caroline, and he was called John. We had a TREWIN family at Highton, but unfortunately there were other TREWIN families who lived nearer to Modewarre, and I haven't been able to find John's death entry. Do you have records of our local cemeteries? If he's from the Highton TREWINs his father was William and his mother was Kuria MOUNTJOY but I haven't found sign of their having a son called John. He may have been born in England - Carol was. It would be great if your local researchers could come up with something. With so many families to cover I am trying to avoid the cost of getting death certificates when I can, so tombstones with dates and ages, PLUS someone having heard of the Benalla family's having once lived at Highton, would be a great help. I have to enter a few more details in the file of Hannah BIRD's COOPERs, as I hadn't wanted to waste time of this family until I proved it was the one I want. But I may just have to see if we can prove that it isn't! Best wishes Marion
