Hi Susie - another great find of yours!! Some goodies from the Geelong Advertisers which you may care to add to relevant names on the list. Regards, Pam Jennings 24/3/1877 Geelong Advertiser A cabman named WINGROVE was summoned to appear at the Geelong Police Court by the Inspector, for preventing another cabman named LANE from obtaining a 'job'. The hackney carriage law does not allow a cabman being off his rank unless engaged and it appears that Wingrove had been waiting at the Victoria Hotel for fully an hour and when in the act of moving off, had obtained Lane's fare, the latter having signalled from the first position in the rank to come over. Of course Lane considered himself wronged and demonstratively informed the public so. The Inspector was a witness to the whole occurrence and a fine of 10/- was inflicted with 2/6 on Wingrove. Later is was said that STONEHAM, Wingrove's employer, struck Lane who has taken out a summons against him and Stoneham will have to appear within the next few days.
