Hi Dorothy, I am connected by marriage to two GILLETT brothers from the Lara/Geelong area, who married two sisters - my GG-aunts. James Thomas GILLETT (1873-1963) m. 1903 Jane COE (1875-1949) and Percival Josiah GILLETT (1877-1951) m. 1907 Matilda COE (1885-1955) Both James Thomas & Percival Josiah GILLETT were 2 of 7 sons born to parents Jacob GILLETT & Caroline GRASS. Jane & Matilda COE were my GG aunts, and their parents were Henry COE & Ellen CARR, from Lara. Percival & Matilda had no children. James & Jane had 3 sons - Harry (1905-1941), Leslie (1906-1976) & Roy (1911-1950). They all remained in the Lara/Geelong area. If you think your Thomas was connected to this family, or if I can be of any help in unravelling your GILLETT connections then please let me know. Regards, Susan

    3. Hi Susan, I appreciate your offer to help find the Thomas Gillett family/ies. Thomas Gillett and Elizabeth Jane Ballantyne were only married two years when he died in 1882 and they had no children. Interestingly, she was eventually interred with her first husband Simeon Pittard in Coburg Cemetery. She died in 1911, aged 69years. Family-lore spoke of him moving out to Lara prior to his death and that there was a very 'odd' relative referred to as the Black With/Widow - obviously not Gillett family-lore!! The fact that Elizabeth Jane was twice widowed suggests to me the 'title' may refer to her. Any help would be greatly appreciated. regards dorothy ~~~~~~~~ Hi Dorothy, I am connected by marriage to two GILLETT brothers from the Lara/Geelong area, who married two sisters - my GG-aunts. 3. Hi Susan I've just received some information about 'my' Thomas Gillett - this researching sure take time doesn't it! and is especially difficult when two wives have the same first name !! Thomas Gillett, b: 1822, Drayton, Somersetshire, England. Left Plymouth 10th March 1855 aboard "Ravenscraig" - arrived at Point Henry 24th June 1855. He was literate, Anglican and with him was a wife Elizabeth (nee Palmer), two stepchildren and two infants. They then had three more children. This Elizabeth died in 1877. He then married 'my' Elizabeth Jane Pittard (nee Ballantyne) on 13th October 1879 in the Wesleyean Parsonage, Geelong. She was a widow with two small children. They did not have any children. He died in 1822 - I have yet to obtain this death cert. Now, is he related to 'your' Gillett/s? look forward to your comments. regards dorothy ~~~~~~~~~ -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]]On Behalf Of SusanThompson Sent: Tuesday, 15 May 2007 9:11 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [GEELONG] Thomas Gillett Hi Dorothy, I am connected by marriage to two GILLETT brothers from the Lara/Geelong area, who married two sisters - my GG-aunts. 3. Hi Dorothy & Susan, I researched your Gillet family some years ago, when I helped a work colleague with her family tree. :) Yes they are related. :) Thomas is Jacob's Uncle. Jacob William GILLET's parents were 'William GILLETT & Elizabeth PESTER' Willliam's parents are also 'John GILLETT & Mary AUSTIN'. John & Mary GILLETT arrived on the 'Oliver Lang' in 1855 with 4 children that I know of. There was also another brother to Jacob & Thomas, James c.1803 died 1876 Victoria. Susan - I have Jacob & Caroline having 10 children? Kind regards, Sherrie. --- http://www.silkweb.com.au/ On Thu, 28 Jun 2007 20:42:27 +1000, Dorothy Moore <[email protected]> wrote: > Hi Susan > > I've just received some information about 'my' Thomas Gillett - this > researching sure take time doesn't it! and is especially difficult when > two wives have the same first name !! > snip > Now, is he related to 'your' Gillett/s? > > look forward to your comments. > regards > dorothy > ~~~~~~~~~ >> > > Hi Dorothy, > > I am connected by marriage to two GILLETT brothers from the Lara/Geelong > area, who married two sisters - my GG-aunts. > > James Thomas GILLETT (1873-1963) m. 1903 Jane COE (1875-1949) > and Percival Josiah GILLETT (1877-1951) m. 1907 Matilda COE (1885-1955) > > Both James Thomas & Percival Josiah GILLETT were 2 of 7 sons born to > parents Jacob GILLETT & Caroline GRASS.
