Hi Chris, Australia has nothing similar to the English census - they were done but not kept - there are small parts of some, mainly in New South Wales or the early part of the 19th Century when they were called "Musters" - too early for Victoria. For "local" Geelong information, your best option are the various Directories - some on-line at ......... http://www.zades.com.au/geelong/gdtopic.htm Also, local rate books can help but of course neither of these options with give you the family members, just the head of the house. So although it appears we are behind the UK in resources we more than make up for it with our BDM indexes and certificates - ours are so superior to the English ones!! You don't mention where you live but Vic BDM Indexes are available at most larger libraries / genie centres etc. (older ones on fiche, newer ones on CD) In Geelong - Geelong Heritage Centre, Geelong Regional Libraries, Deakin Uni (Waterfront), LDS FHC Centre, and local historical and family history societies.
