The caped silk dress made 1835 is very similar to the one Catherine is wearing in her photo. Many thank, Rosalyn Hi Rosalyn I have been sent a copy of my ancestors across te hbottom of which is written "START ON THE LAND 1850 VICTORIA" The date has been overwritten and as I only have a photocopy of a photoo it is hard to make out what has been overwritten but I think it perahaps 1861 which would be more in line with the guessed ages of the people in the photo. As this family did not arrive in Australia until 1853 the 1850 is not true. 1861would be more accurate. A quick internet seach revealed a site "The history of Photograpy in South Ausrtralia 1845-1915" users.chariot.net.au/~rjnoye · This would seem to indicate that your photo could indeed have been made close to 1842. Some internet research should provide some ideas about dates and palces.
