No help to you, except for a date - The (Hobart) Courier, 12 December 1849 MELANCHOLY ACCIDENT AT GEELONG.-Captain Kirkus, the commander of the Victor two of the apprentices of that ship, and a young gentleman, nephew of Capt. Davidson, ot the Posthumous, were all drowned at Geelong on Sunday week, the 2nd instant. It appears Captain Kirkus had been ashore to church, and was returning to the ship at Point Henry when the melancholy catastrophe occurred. The accident was not observed from the shore, although it is stated that some person on shore saw one of the parties taking in the misen; but the boat was no more seen. The bodies had not been found. The Geelong regatta was postponed in consequence of the event. Cheers
