    3. Hi Ada - just a thought - I wonder if one of the boys enlisting / serving from Dunkeld, was her brother? I am currently researching soldiers from the Otways and find connections to towns far remote from where they signed up. It would be interesting to see if there is an Honor Roll at Dunkeld that may give some names. kind regards, Pam Jennings ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ada Ackerly" <aackers@alphalink.com.au> To: <aackers@alphalink.com.au>; <aus-vic-geelong-district@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, November 30, 2009 10:39 AM Subject: [GEELONG] 1918 poet Kathleen Walker, East Geelong > > Hello Listers. > > In the Ararat Chronicle July 1918 appears a poem by > > Kathleen WALKER of East Geelong, titled "From a Little Bush Town" > > The town in question is Dunkeld, the poem mourning the loss of twenty > local boys in WW1. > > It's a really good lyrical piece of poetry, not "doggerel" or forced. > > Of course, this is too early for the famous poet Mrs Kath Walker, then a > tiny child. > > But, does anyone know who she was? > > Intrigued. > > Regards Ada Ackerly > ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ > For on-line indexes and information on Geelong and District > http://zades.com.au > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > AUS-VIC-GEELONG-DISTRICT-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' > without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

    3. Or check on the index that Jan McCawley did of WW1 entries in News of the Week - 'Those Who Served'. It mentions a lot of Western District soldiers and families. BTW that would be a great index to add to Suzie's 'Pot Pourrie' database (if it's not already there).
