Using the Geelong and District book index I see a reference to the fruit and vegetable market (Richardson's Geelong Produce Exchange) on July 6 in "Geelong - The First 150 Years". There is a picture of the inside of the market and one of Horace Frank Richardson and a whole page is devoted to the story. The market had a frontage to Little Malop Street and later Richardson bought the land fronting Ryrie Street which became the Exchange Arcade. Later the complete area was re developed and became the Centrepoint Arcade which is immediately west of the Geelong Advertiser building Gwen ----- Original Message ----- From: "Carollyn Williams" <wisteria@bigpond.net.au> To: <aus-vic-geelong-district@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, April 03, 2010 7:54 AM Subject: Re: [GEELONG] Richardson's Market Geelong > Yes Gwen I knew it as Exchange Arcade too. > Carollyn > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Gwen" <gtrel@bigpond.com> > To: <aus-vic-geelong-district@rootsweb.com> > Sent: Friday, April 02, 2010 9:35 PM > Subject: Re: [GEELONG] Richardson's Market Geelong > > >> Richardson's Market was situated where the Centrepoint Arcade is now, >> between Ryrie and Little Malop Streets. Hi Folks, The original building is still there - it was called the Exchange Building and is on the south side 130-138 Little Malop Street. Gwen and co are correct - variously called Centrepoint Arcade, Centreway Arcade, Exchange Arcade etc. In the "old days" of course the building was facing Market Square. Regards ........
