Wonder if anyone knows what the phrase 'R & P' means in correspondence in Land Files at PROV? Unfortunately I have not seen this in any files I have looked at, nor do I have a sentence with it in, which may help as well! The person I am trying to help has seen it several times so it was not particular to any one file. thanks for any suggestions, Pam Jennings

Hi, Could it be "Roods" and "Perches", relating to the area of land, as in the measurement of so many acres (or hectares), roods and perches. Regards, Shirley Wonder if anyone knows what the phrase 'R & P' means in correspondence in Land Files at PROV? R & P may mean in this context Regional and Provincial. Wonder if anyone knows what the phrase 'R & P' means in correspondence in > Land Files at PROV? I replied to this yesterday, but the email is still coming. Here is another take on it. But it might only refer to government departments. In these cases R might stand for "request" and P for "Property" See below for quote from PROV web site: "The Property Division filing system was an alpha-numeric system. The file number format comprised a letter prefix followed by a sequential number. R files: request files related to all new requests directed to Accommodation Planning and Audit Group for assessment. These files were created when client departments or other organisations requested accommodation, or the purchase of a property. All the leasing and purchasing negotiations were documented in these R files. An example would be : a request by the Police Department for new premises for their dog squad in Brunswick. The file number would be R 123 and the title would be Request For New Premises : Police Dog Squad. Once a suitable premises was found and either the lease or purchase negotiations were finalised by the Projects and Consultancy Group the file was handed over to the Property Management Section to handle the ongoing maintenance and leasing and purchasing details of the premises. At this stage the letter prefix changed from R to P. P Files: there were three types of property files: leased property, government owned property and outgoings files. All three types were identified by the prefix P." But that might not be what the Original Poster had in mind. Perhaps it is roods and perches, though the abbreviation of rood is rd. See this for an explanation of the origin of acres, roods, perches and furlong: http://www.sizes.com/units/acre.htm Jennifer -----Original Message----- From: aus-vic-geelong-district-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:aus-vic-geelong-district-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Pam & Trevor Jennings Sent: Thursday, 14 January 2010 3:54 PM To: geelong district Subject: [GEELONG] Land Files Wonder if anyone knows what the phrase 'R & P' means in correspondence in Land Files at PROV?
