    3. Thanks Ada - yes I totally agree - I need the context in which this woman is talking about. I took it on as a favour and she was somewhat disorganised about what she was telling me. I intend calling her later today and see if I can get something more definite about her query!!! In any case it has brought up some interesting information for the rest of us!!! regards, Pam ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ada Ackerly" <aackers@alphalink.com.au> To: <aus-vic-geelong-district@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, January 15, 2010 2:37 PM Subject: Re: [GEELONG] Land Files > Hello Pam, > > Not knowing the context of the "R and P" I am at a loss to understand > why Roods and Perches is considered the answer, > > I only think that solution would apply if there was a measurement, e.g. > "44 acres R & P " though in my experience the Lands Dept were VERY > PRECISE when they mentioned measurements, and this, I think, would not > be done! > > Was "R&P" > 1. in the body of the correspondence (so, what was it next to?), > 2. as a code at the top of the page where the filing information was > entered? > 3. or other? > > In the Lands Dept R was sometimes used for: > Registration of a lease > Revaluation of improvements and other things, > and for Roads and Reserves > > And P was used > > as a prefix to "surveys" usually with a date following, though not always > > So.... maybe.... > > "Registered and Surveyed"??? > > or, simply, "Registered and Paid"??? > > One really needs the context, otherwise, we are just guessing. > > Regards Ada > > > Pam & Trevor Jennings wrote: >> Thank you to everyone who quickly responded with Rood & Perch - of course >> this is what it must be!!!
