Hi I have started tracing this family because of the Melrose connection. My partner's mother's maid name was Melrose and they came from Edinburgh (Midlothian). Looks like George got his middle name from his grandmother Agnes Bailie/Bailey who married Andrew Pringle. Son Charles Pringle bapt'd 18 Oct 1789 Temple, Midlothian, married Elizabeth Melrose possibly bapt'd 7 Aug 1792 Temple, Midlothian, dau of William Melrose & Elizabeth Herper/Harper who married 26 Jun 1812 Lasswade, Midlothian. Charles & possibly Elizabeth came to Australia with their children as Charles died 1860 Surname: PRINGLE Given Names: Charles Event: D Spouse Surname/Father: Andrew Spouse Gvn Names/Mother: Agnes BAILEY Age: 89 Sex: Birth Place: MIDLOTHIAN Death Place: Year: 1879 Reg Number: 4803 Denomination: Parish: And this is possibly his wife Elizabeth Surname: PRINGLE Given Names: Elizth Melrose Event: D Spouse Surname/Father: Unknown Spouse Gvn Names/Mother: Age: 72 Sex: Birth Place: Death Place: Year: 1860 Reg Number: 11385 Denomination: Parish: Fiche: Still working on it but so far I have 9 children born to Charles & Elizabeth Andrew abt 1813 married Rebecca Higgins 1855 VIC, Australia William abt 1815 Robert abt 1817 Agnes Melrose abt 1820 Elizabeth abt 1823 James Johnston abt 1825 Margaret abt 1827 married Howie Isabella abt 1829 married James Wilson 23 May 1851 Dalkeith, Midlothian Charles abt 1831 Off to check the Geelong Eastern Cemetery Sue
Dear Sue, Here is what I think is the WILSON family John b.1852 Belfast (Port Fairy) Charles b.1854 ? (possibly Port Fairy) James b.1857 ? (possibly Port Fairy) William b.1859 (Ararat) George (This child is listed on the Birth Certificate of George Bailey without an age - may have died in infancy) George Bailey b.1861 (Geelong) Elizabeth b. 1864 (Geelong) Walter b.1866 (Cowies Creek) Agnes Purves b.1869 (Geelong) George's second Christian name 'BAILEY' does seem to have been the maiden name of his maternal grandmother Agnes PRINGLE (nee BAILEY). There appears to have been a lot of PRINGLES also in the Geelong area. Perhaps they were aunts, uncles and cousins.
