To Susie, Roby and Daryl Following your advise and a bit of thinking outside of the square, I think that I have unravelled part of the mystery. I feel sure that I have found a death for Marshall James Neal McGuire a long way from 1932 - 1935, in 1995 actually and he was cremated at Fawkner Memorial Park. This leads to another question, is there any way I can check for a divorce for Marshall McGuire and Edna Victoria Smith prior to 1935? With thanks again. Dennis

Hi, Can't see a death in NSW or Victoria under that spelling or Macguire or Maguire. Perhaps they divorced or he died in another stae. regards RObyn

Hi Ken, For Ken's information and others - further information on EVERY index included in the Pot-pourri Database can be found by reading the Potpourri page under the headings "More Info?" and "What's in it?" http://zades.com.au/gandd/index.php/databases/potpourri If you read the details about the index for your third reference ... Pioneer Board Photos ... http://zades.com.au/gandd/index.php/databases/potpourri/ppindexes/253-ppgdpi onph You'll find the link and instructions for viewing the photo yourself. Locals won't be able to get a better photo as the huge frames boards are up on the wall and behind thick glass. Similarly for your second reference ... Employee Pay-sheet ... http://zades.com.au/gandd/index.php/databases/potpourri/ppindexes/259-ppgeem ploy The ONLY additional information available is a page number which is quite useless because we don't know where the original records are, so at this stage there is nothing more that locals can look up for you. And for your first reference ... Geelong Architecture ... http://zades.com.au/gandd/index.php/databases/potpourri/ppindexes/239-ppgaar ch The information is available from the Geelong Family History Group. Regards ........... On the subject of the "Free Ticket" to the hospital, I found when working my way through the Ballarat Council Inwards Correspondence, an interesting letter from the Ballarat Hospital. Apparently the Ballarat Council also gave tickets to people they deemed as needy for treatment at the Ballarat hospital. One man was given a ticket and the hospital complained that the Council staff "were issuing tickets to anyone who walked in and complained of being sick". The hospital said they, the council, had to be more careful as the man was not sick. There were two letters of complaint from the hospital, then the correspondence was closed by the hospital as the man "had inexplicitly dropped dead in the street outside the hospital" Dianne Hughes > ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ > For on-line indexes and information on Geelong and District > http://zades.com.au > > Today's Topics: > > 1. Hi Linda, You're doing a great job! One of the interesting things I found near the back of the Annual Report was the Rules and Regulations with the explanation of what people "earned" for their subscriptions ... "Tickets" that enabled free treatment - particularly for those who couldn't afford it. I'm guessing that property and business owners may have been looking after their employees. Some of the country ones are definitely stations / properties. Coryeule [Coriyule] is near Drysdale and belonged to the Lady Squatters - Anne Drysdale and Caroline Newcomb. It's a beautiful unusual home and is the oldest residential property on the Bellarine Peninsula. The new owners are currently doing a major restoration job on it. Regards .......... Hi Folks, The Geelong & District Potpourri database has been updated with two new additions 1. Geelong: Protestant Orphan Asylum discharges since 1855 [VPRS 1189] These have full details of child, father, mother etc. etc. - a copy of these entries appeared in a journal some years and was in the Geelong Family History Group library - Helen Harris, the original compiler of this data, has kindly given permission for it to be added to our G&D database. 2. Geelong: Infirmary and Benevolent Asylum Annual Reports 1852-1896 Three years have started off this addition - 1852, 1853 and 1860,

Hi Susie, Thanks for your detailed reply and those pointers, and yes I have the "Emond" book. Once again thanks for your time. I'm almost convinced that "Bilenan" is a house / property name and not a geographic place name as we know it today. I noticed the Edward COLLINS in "Bullockies, Draymen & Horsemen" and I this definitely looks like your man - it was dated 4 Jan 1841 and referred to some problems he had with his employer - Rev Benjamin HURST - which just happens to be the minister who baptised Edward John COLLINS on 9th February 1841. It says that COLLINS was employed at the Buntingdale Mission. Immediately above the COLLINS entry in the church register, is an entry for Francis Lee TUCKFIELD at Buntingdale "near Geelong" so I would say it was at or part of the Buntingdale Mission. So have a good look at the Book Index and the Directories Index - plenty there to follow up on. Also, I presume you're aware of "Emond Family History: from Selkirk, Selkirkshire, Scotland to Geelong, Victoria, Australia 1854-2004" by Glennis Dees - if not, follow it up. Regards .............. Hi Jim, The registers definitely aren't available on the web anywhere. Do you mean you don't have access to any LDS Family History Centres where you can order films? If that's the case then your best option would be to put in a (paid) Research Request to one of the local societies for them to chase the information for you. Details of various centres in the region can be found at ... http://zades.com.au/gandd/index.php/geelong/research/gdresc The Geelong Family History Group would probably be your best option - they can follow up the details at the Heritage Centre.
