Good morning all, I read with great interest Colleen Robinson's message about the above newspaper website. I went to the website and searched and found a number of family members listed in different articles. It was very exciting reading indeed. Being that it was a Melbourne Newspaper I didn't expect to find so many family members listed from over Victoria. It was a great find. I even found mention of a still born child in 1924. How common was it to list a still birth? There was no death or funeral listed for this wee babe. I also found an interesting article on an ancestor who "fell out of a tree" and a few days later died from the results according to a verdict. Many wedding notices were found and they give a very interesting insite into what they wore and who was there. I will be looking into this website for awhile now given so many "hits" found for some surnames. My question now is after finding a number of newspapers you are given 3 options: "print", "save as PDF" and "Save as Image". I hit the save as image and from there printed out what I wanted. Now I have the problem of "where on my computer" would the images have been saved? I have looked every where I can think to look and can not find them. I admit I am still learning about computers and there workings. If anyone can direct me in the right way I would be ever so grateful. Many thanks, Melissa.
Many thanks to all who helped with my request Yes the 2 families I had were Bennett and Pearse Thanks again Dale ----- Original Message ----- From: "Susie Zada" <szada@zades.com.au> To: <aus-vic-geelong-district@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, November 22, 2009 4:54 PM Subject: Re: [GEELONG] Place name AYRI > Hi Dale, > > I've just got back from Mulwala after a great couple of days at the > Goulburn-Murray Association of Family History Groups Expo - sold lots of > books for our local Geelong District groups. Is anyone else out there interested in the following people, if so, I would love to hear from you. John MILTON baptised 20 Oct 1793 Little Samford, Essex, England and his wife Catherine ROONEY born Ireland? John and Catherine were in the Geelong area in the late 1840s?. John is buried in the Eastern Cemetery at Geelong (1850) and I think only God knows at this stage where Catherine is buried. One of John and Catherine's children Jane (born 1834 Hobart) married a Henry BRANCH in Geelong in 1850. Other children of this couple were Thomas (1821), Elizabeth (1832), William (1836) and James (1838) all born in Hobart. regards, Lynne Send instant messages to your online friends http://au.messenger.yahoo.com
Thanks Susie, Yes, Zipporah is one of my SIMMONS family tree. I have been wondering over her. It is interesting to note that James Francis TRIBOLET failed to list any of their children on registering her death. I had hoped that there might be someone of her descendants who might read these Emails. Colleen.

Hi Colleen and Robyn, What a fascinating snippet! I was trying to check the PROV departures index to see if Thomas MARTIN left the colony but the site seems to be down at the moment. The 1891 Marriage Certificate should certainly give information that may help resolve this mystery - especially as Zipporah is registered under her former married name and not her maiden name. The children of TRIBOLET and Zipporah were baptised as their children and no mention of MARTIN. If anyone was interested enough to check the Geelong Advertiser indexes for 1859-1860 they might find a further reference to Thomas MARTIN that might give a clue to the result of the appearance before the bench. Interestingly I can't find any reference to Newtown & Chilwell courts in either the PROV courts or at the Heritage Centre. I wonder if it was part of the Geelong Courts and just a separate sitting for Newtown & Chilwell cases? Colleen - are these relatives or just an interesting article you came across? The TRIBOLET family are covered in "The Geelong Swiss" [see Geelong and District Book Index] It will be interesting to see if anyone finds an outcome for Thomas MARTIN! Regards .......... Hi Dale, I've just got back from Mulwala after a great couple of days at the Goulburn-Murray Association of Family History Groups Expo - sold lots of books for our local Geelong District groups. I've been watching the emails but didn't want to reply until I got home and could check my references. I'm pleased you used the process to check the contiguous registrations and found they were all from the Geelong area. I was pretty convinced AYRI was actually Aireys Inlet (with the Y/I being a "different" spelling for Ayreys / Aireys). The one thing you didn't do was give us the names but having found that you were probably referring to children with the surname of BENNETT and PEARSE, I zeroed in on PEARSE because of the PEARSE Cairn at Aireys Inlet. The PEARSE Cairn was covered in the recent Surf Coast Heritage Study Stage 2 and looking at the history notes for that site, it shows that Thomas Butson PEARSE and Martha SPEERING worked the Angahook Run at Aireys Inlet from 1852 until their deaths - Thomas in 1862 and Martha in 1870. So there is no doubt the PEARSE reference was for Aireys Inlet. I don't have a direct reference for the BENNETT child but as that was also in the Geelong region (based on the registration number) and other references for this BENNETT family in the Barrabool Hills region, the odds are in favour of it also being Aireys Inlet - possibly working at Angahook Run or nearby. The Baptism entry for Charles Robert PEARSE, shows he was baptised a few years after he was born at Angahook Station. People from Aireys Inlet at that time would have travelled to their main "supply" centre, being Geelong, and hence probably registered the births at Geelong. Not sure if you were researching the BENNETT family or the PEARSE family or both, but if it's the PEARSE family you might be interested in the book "South Beach Pioneer: history of the PEARSE family" by L G McCONACHY, J B MORRIS & D J ROBINSON, published in 1985. And for other listers, I cannot stress enough that it's really a waste of time guessing the place an abbreviation might refer to - use different options to confirm the place. Hope that helps ............ Fascinating hearing about local pronunciations. Also, I didn't know Lara was once Larra. It reminds me of this which was on the news recently: Residents in the far north Queensland town of Miriwinni are missing something and they want it back. They have formed the 'missing R committee' that is trying to have the spelling of the town's name changed to include a double R. Hello to the list. A recent search of the NLA Australian Newspapers has found this piece of information "The Argus (Melbourne) 8 October 1859 At the Police Office this morning, a Mr. Thomas Martin appeared before the Bench, to answer a charge of abduction, in having married a young girl named Zipporah Simmons, daughter of Mr. Simmons, innkeeper, Waurn Ponds, without his consent, she being under 17 years of age. The Bench, consisting of the Mayor and Police Magistrate, ordered the case to be adjourned for adjudication before the Newtown and Chilwell Bench, the offence having been committed within its jurisdiction. The charges against the Rev. Charles Hodges, the officiating clergyman, and Owen Johns and William Lambie, as accessories before the act, were also ordered to stand over for disposal before the same Bench." This unapproved marriage is recorded - 27th Sep 1859 at Clarendon Street, Chillwell. I continued searching but was not able to find any report of a subsequent case, or cases. Several deaths are recorded that could be the above Thomas MARTIN but I have not bought the certificates.... What could they tell me when I have few details. Zipporah SIMMONS is the registered mother of 10 children, father James Francis TRIBOLET, the first born 1862. Zipporah Simmons and James Francis TRIBOLET married 1891. Some of their descendants could be TRIBOLET, STEWART, STRICKLAND. Does anyone have any answers? Colleen R.
If you look up Lake Ayrey on Vicnames - http://services.land.vic.gov.au/vicnames/place.html - you can view it on a map.
Current Google maps show a Lake Ayrey very near the Princes Highway east of Colac about 3 kms east of Warncoort.
