    3. Thanks Susie wasnt aware of that, A couple of maps seemed to have one persons name pencilled in and crossed out then another put in, maybe the sale fell through or as you say it was 'repossessed' so to speak. Anyway found a couple of the family on the drysdale one. Thanks again Linda

    2. Susie Zada
    3. Hi Linda, If you're referring to the date the map was produced then it's mostly irrelevant for Parish Plans. The Parish Plans show the FIRST Crown Land Purchaser (regardless of whether the map was produced in 1870 or 1970, and NOT the owner at the time the map was produced. This will only change in the case of Closer or Soldier Settlements when land was "repossessed" by the Crown and then resold. Regards ......... 2. Susie Zada
    3. Hi Folks, A lot of these have been on-line for a couple of months but I've just noticed that they have now added to all 3 consignments so it's worth drawing your attention to them. Summary - PROV have digitised in HIGH definition and full colour a "complete" collection of Victorian Parish Plans and Town Plans together with a series of Soldier & Closer Settlements, miscellaneous plans, and Melbourne, Suburban, and Country Parish Plan plans (helps you find the parish for geographical locations These are LARGE .pdf files - 2-18 Mb, so you need to be patient when downloading but they're definitely worthwhile - you can zoom in and read EVERY word / number on these plans. To find your Parish / Town etc, go to ... http://tinyurl.com/ycumo4d Enter 16171 In the VPRS box And your Parish / Town etc. in the "with any of the words or numbers" box Then be prepared to waste HOURS !! <vbg> Enjoy .............. 2. Susie Zada
    3. Hi Folks, You've probably noticed the message that appears to be s p a m on the Mailing List - I think you'll find that the apparent sender hasn't done this consciously - I think he's picked up a virus as the same message is appearing all over the place. It's probably one of those viruses that sends a message to everyone in your address book "from you". Bottom line - don't bother to click on the link. In the meantime he's been removed from the list until he's sorted out the problem. Normally these messages get caught in the Rootsweb trap but as he was a legitimate member this one snuck through. Hope everyone has had a lovely Christmas and hopefully we don't get more of these. Unfortunately it's the time of year when the different viruses seem to spread quicker. Things will settle down! <vbg> All the best ......... Susie Z

    3. Hi everyone - Susie has allowed me to place this 'advertisement' as I know many of you with Colac connections may not get to hear about it elsewhere...... I have just read in the Colac Herald of Dawn Peel's newest book detailing Colac during World War 2. The need was apparent when she was helping design a history course for one of the local schools and found a lack of local knowledge of that time. Dawn has interviewed residents living through those war years etc and I know that her research is always meticulous. The book is available at various outlets in Colac. regards, Pam Jennings

Many thanks for your inspiring energy and dedication to our nation's most precious asset. All the best for 2010. Kind Regards Liz Seaton nee Dedman Mansfield Vic ======================================================= And her reply to my request to forward her message ... 2. Stan & Linda Edwards
    3. Just letting people know we are still looking for volunteers to index these reports. They have some interesting information on them for people whose ancestors may have subscribed, to the hospital, Owners of larger properties list employees under the property, so it does give you an idea of who was working where, other groups who list donations are the swiss residents and some larger companies. Looking at the conditions and rules is interesting in setting the conditions people lived in, for instance patients who were considered able were expected to do their share of work. visiting hours were 2 hours twice a week and only two visitors allowed. Residents who subscribed were then given tickets depending on the amount they gave which entitled them to a certain amount of care both as in and out patients. Unfortunately the donations are not really in alphabetical order for much of the report hence our indexing it. Or you would need to search some 12 pages per year for names of interest. If anyone is interested in assisting, drop susie a line and choose a year we have almost completed 1852 up to 1870. Linda Edwards

    3. Dear All, My MCLEODS arrived aboard the " fever ship"Ticonderoga in 1852. It was called the fever ship because over 100 Scots perished during the journey and the ship was quarantined at Portsea, Vic on its arrival My ancestor Margaret MCLEOD and her 7 siblings survived the journey. The family consists of : Margaret b. 1821 Isle of Raasay (off Isle of Skye) Christina b. 1825 Torquil b. 1827 Their parents were John MCLEOD b. abt 1792 and died 1851 and his wife Catherine died about 1836 John MCLEOD married his 2nd wife Elizabeth (Bess) abt 1836 and their children are: Alexander b 1837 Ann b. 1838 Niel b. 1840 Catherine b. 1842 Catherine b. 1846 Margaret married James ROBINSON in Melbourne in 1853 and moved to the Barnawartha Vic. area around this time. Her sisters, Christina, Ann and Catherine x2 (yes 2, their Scottish Names were Anglicanzed to Catherine) also moved to this area. The girls are well researched and very traceable. However the boys are not. I have searched VIC, NSW bdms without luck. I have a possibility in Vic of a death for Niel in 1869 which I will probably purchase the certificate. However I have had no luck tracing Torquil or Alexander. There are many MCLEODS and without purchasing many certificates, I have not been able to find any that are obviously the right one. >From other sources I know that many McLEOD's settled in the Purnim area, and I am hoping that there maybe some descendants of these brothers on this list who may be able to help Many thanks Robyn
