    3. I think there was a history written a few years ago about the History of the Shire Mt.Koorong was in. Unfortunately I now can't remember the name of the book or the Shire, it was written by a chap Taylor. The Maginnes/McGuinness family from Geelong were in the area. I'm sure the State Library will be able to help with the title. Dianne Hughes Teesdale

    3. Hi Graham, No mention of this family unless they're related to Henry Madren LEGGO. From the Leggo website ....... One hundred years ago, an Englishman, FR Rickards, established a business in Bendigo that was to become the foundation for the highly successful HM Leggo Company. Throughout the years many changes have occurred but the Leggo brand remains well established and respected in the food industry. FR Rickards arrived in Melbourne in 1879 and accepted a position as Clerk at TB Guests & Co., Biscuit Manufacturers. In 1881, he established his own wholesale business, and soon after (March 1882), he took into his employment a 13 year old boy, Henry Madren Leggo. Henry's initiative and resourcefulness led him to purchase Rickards' interest in the company in 1894. The company then became HM Leggo & Co. He acquired a skating rink, which he converted to a factory for the manufacture of vinegar, pickles, sauces, cordials and baking powder, and other grocery sundries. Further extensions were made when HM Leggo & Co. bought the business of the late William Budden in 1899. Regards ........ 3. I'm happy to help although I don't have any articles, just lots of bits. I know Elisha de Garis died in Geelong from the death indexes. A website on Sandringham told me he was buried at Brighton. His headstone told the one piece of information I really needed - that his first wife was buried in Guernsey (before that I had no idea what happened to her) - the entry for Elisha de Garis in Cyclopedia of Victoria confirms that his first wife was the daughter of John Buncle. I can photocopy and send anything I have. BTW the Cyclopedia of Victoria entry for Elisha de Garis also has his address as Sarnia in Mildura - named after his birthplace. If you recall that was also the name of the home in LA Trobe Terrace. 3. Hi, I'm new to the list as I have recently found that my gggrandparents lived in Geelong for a period from abt 1863. I am interested in Caleb and Serena Day (nee Vale) who arrived in Vic on a ship called the "Great Tasmania". My great grandmother Minnie Eliza Gertrude was born in 1863 in Geelong. Any information gratefull received, as this is my brick wall. The family apparently moved to Glebe in Sydney some time before 1876. There were several daughters and one or two sons. Dawn Geddes

    3. Hello Lynn, Not much to report on the name Addis in the Christ Church booklet but I"ll copy out the relevant info.:- As early as February, 1841, when the population of Geelong was returned as 454, subscriptions for an "Episcopalian" as distinct from a Presbyterian Church were being collected. (Until this time the Anglicans were worshipping at a small church, St. Andrew's, built in Yarra Street in 1842.) On Monday, 12th July, 1841, fourteen gentlemen met at the office of Mr. Henry Tyssen, solicitor, paid one pound of their subscriptions, and in accordance with the Act of Council elecgted five of their number as Trustees. These were Lieutenant E.B.Addis, R.N......... Hope this is of interest to you Lynn. Guess Point Addis down near Anglesea was named for the Lieutenant. Regards, Judy in Deniliquin.

    3. G'day Jenny, Sorry I can't help much but I did a quick check of the BDM index & the birth you mention is "WA RR". You shouldn't assume Warrnambool, it could also be anything from Warracbarunah to Warrion Hill. Cheers... Pat... 2. Hello listers, Can anyone give me some advice on how to find the birth of the elusive Robert Peter Yeoman? At his death in August 1968 his parents were not known, and his age was given as 76. This puts his birth around 1892. The marriage index gives his place of birth as Geelong but as he is only one of many second cousins twice removed I don't want to have to buy his marriage cert. The only possible birth I can find between 1891 & 1899 is in Warrnambool to mother Eliza Yeoman. Does anyone have any ideas? With thanks, Jenny Boyer
