    3. Hi, I don't live in Geelong but used to visit my grandmother who lived in Newtown and later moved to Belmont - the only lake, pond or marsh I can think of would be near Baliang Sanctuary which is alongside the Barwon River where I spent many school holidays running around. Speaking to Mum who grew up in Geelong there was a dairy there but she thought it was just off Mt Pleasant Road?? Hope someone else can help further, Amanda ----- Original Message ----- From: "Peter MacAuslan" <pmaca@pipeline.com.au> To: <AUS-VIC-GEELONG-DISTRICT-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, October 19, 2003 11:21 AM Subject: [GEELONG] Roslyn Rd > There used to be a dairy in Roslyn Rd Belmont. > Residents in that area think that a lake ,pond or marsh were there before the area was developed, > Any information? > Peter MacAuslan > > > ==== AUS-VIC-GEELONG-DISTRICT Mailing List ==== > Geelong & District Churches : > http://www.zades.com.au/geelong/gdchur.htm > >

    3. I have just joined this list, although I have been researching my family for some time. I've had a browse through the website, and the index names. A bit spine-tingling to see my ggrandmothers name (Julia MATTHEY (BILES) in the index, just as I'm copying her death certificate. Is it possible to obtain copies of either of the books referred to:- The Geelong Swiss: record of some 19th Century Families >From Boudry to the Barrabool Hills: the Swiss Vignerons of Geelong ? Would love to hear from anyone who may be researching any of the above names. Judy Thomas

    3. Hi Listers, Could SKS tell me if a Samuel Wiseman who died in 1870 is buried in one of the Geelong cemeteries, as he died in Geelong Hospital. Secondly, how do I go about obtaining wills of people who died in Victoria from say the 1860's - 1940's. Thanking you, Carolyn.

    1. [GEELONG] Steiglitz Cemetery
    2. Dianne Hughes
    3. Beth, Most of those burials are far too early for Steiglitz, some may have been in the old original cemetery, but if they are I haven't found them. I would suggest they are most likely buried at Eastern Cemetery Geelong. Early death certificates often don't give a place of burial but if the deaths are registered in Geelong then that's where they're buried. Dianne Hughes

    3. Hi Dianne, Thank you for your offer of a look up. I am looking for the Rankin Family. I know that Mary Jane died 1855, James Thomas died 1857 and Thomas(or James Thomas) died 1858 and maybe the father James Rankin died there sometime. 1. [GEELONG] Additional photographers from Sandy Barrie
    2. Ada Ackerly
    3. Hello Listers, If you would like a copy of the email from Sandy Barrie, Author of "Australians Behind the Camera" to add to your copy of the listing of photographers which have come in since the publication of the book, I would be pleased to send a copy of the email recently received. I must admit I was not aware that he was still collecting, and have not sent to him my findings, so I guess they will come out in a year's time as "addendum 2" along with any assistance you can offer with missing photographers. He asks for these extras that you find, be sent to him. This request is in the email. I'd be quite happy to send on a copy, as he heads it thus: To the Owner of ³Australian Behind the Camera² Enclosed is the Addendum of additional Photographers, and corrections to the Book listings. If you could please attach, somehow this listing to the book for future reference. Sandy Barrie. regards, Ada Ackerly, Melbourne, Australia formerly Ackerly DocuSearch

    1. Re: [GEELONG] Henry Nathaniel and Jane Phoebe ROSE
    2. Tony Scott
    3. Hello Merren and everyone, As your great grandmother was born at Steiglitz, you might be interested in the Back to Steiglitz day on Sunday 26th of this month. There will be a lot of photos and other historical information on display, and a number of old residents and others with connections to Steiglitz will be available to talk to. There will also be a listing of the burials in the Steiglitz cemetery - perhaps Henry Nathaniel and Emily Mary are buried there. You might also want to peruse the Steiglitz Miner newspaper which is available on microfilm at the State Library and also the Geelong Historical Records Centre. Issues from 17 June 1893 to 19 Jan 1907 are available. Also the GHRC has Steiglitz rate books for the periods 1866-1878 and 1885-1915, which are an invaluable source of information.
