>From the online Geelong Infirmary Index I found a reference to a relative. As I am unable to get out to search records, I wondered if someone has access to the records and wouldn't mind looking it up for me, please? The reference is: Alice O'Shanassy, 1879, 43057 Is this index the same as the Geelong Hospital index? If not, is there someone who could look up Alice O'Shanassy, and also her mother, Mary Ann O'Shanassy, for me please? The surname is sometimes spelt in a variety of ways, including O'Shannassy/O'Shannessy/O'Shanassy/O'Shanessy, and without the O'. If any one is able to help, I would be most grateful. With thanks, Alwynne

There is a soldiers flat listed near Ballaraat this site has many old names listed. http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~surreal/victowns/index.html The only Briar Rose cemetary that came up was in Franklington LA(Los angeles I assume) USA. I used Yahoo advanced search to look for both links. I find it well worth using occassionally as you can find all sorts of information. Hello, A website which may be of interest to listers gives the 2002 equivalent of money values back to 1264. This can give you an idea of the value of an ancestor's Will or an annual wage, etc. It is at: http://eh.net/hmit/ppowerbp/ Regards Joy

This is just to thank Susie Zada very much for allowing messages from list members about their email problems, and to keeping everyone informed about the problems that have existed out there this month. If it wasn't for Susie, I would stil be wondering what the heck was going on. Let's hope all the problems are resolved shortly so that we can get back to the Real Business. Many thanks, Susie, >From Marion in NZ
Hi Folks, Just to clarify for folks on why they may be bounced off some lists and not others - not specific to Geelong & District but could help some people. Firstly, a REALLY helpful web site to add to your Favourites / Bookmarks ... http://passwordcentral.rootsweb.com/ Here you can check which lists you're subbed to - a good idea is to do this when you are subbed to all the lists you want, then you receive an email with this list that you can file away for future use. About getting bounced off some lists and not others .... Of course this can depend on how busy a list is - obviously the busier the list the quicker your bounces exceed the "maximum" allowed and you're automatically unsubbed. The recent bigpond problems just made it impossible to keep up with as a List Admin! In addition to how busy a list is, a List Admin can also change the DEFAULT number of bounces allowed before a member is bounced off. A lot of List Admins don't even realise that's an option! Anyway, the Geelong & District (and Bellarine Peninsula) List isn't too busy to make it impossible under normal circumstances, so I've increased the number of bounces allowed to 12 for List Mode and 8 for Digest Mode - I've found that this normally allows enough time for ISP problems / hiccups to get sorted out. The number of bounce flags doesn't keep accumulating forever - after a period of days/number of bounces (?) it resets to zero. Most times it doesn't cause too much trauma by increasing the number of bounces but I must admit the last couple of weeks have been a right royal headache - was almost tempted to reset the max bounces back to the default (which is think is 4 and 3) but I know so many people on this list I feel guilty if I don't do all I can to help!! Also, don't forget you can always check the Mailing List Archives to see what you might have missed .......... http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/index/aus-vic-geelong-district Hope that explanation helps some ........... I have been booted off DPS-Chat for generating an excessive amount of bounced emails too. I would like to make contact with anyone who is researching the following families - 'McMillan', who were recorded in Scottish records as MacMillan, and 'McDonald' (I have included some information below on both families) This is the MacMillan family record from the HIES records: Archibald and Flora MacMillan arrived in Portland Victoria on the New Zealander in 1853. Hi Deidre, I think that's still bigpond clearing their backlog of problems! Or it could be rootsweb clearing their backlog of problems! Or it could be a combination of both. I've seen lots of complaints on other lists about multiple postings but they seem to be from different rootsweb servers which sort of lets them off the hook a bit as bigpond appears to be another common denominator! Keep your fingers crossed that it will settle down over the next few days. Regards .... The Sandford War Memorial (near Casterton, south-west Victoria) has been refurbished and will be reconsecrated in a ceremony at 1:30pm, Saturday, 8th November, 2003. Afternoon tea will then be provided by the Sandford Hall Committee. It is hoped that relatives of the servicemen whose names are on the memorial will be able to attend. A list of names from both WW1 & WW2 listed on the Sandford Memorial can be viewed on the web at: http://www.ballaratgenealogy.org.au/sandford/ Regards Daryl Povey http://www.ballaratgenealogy.org.au/digby/
