    3. Unfortunately it was a one off and the Archdeacon doesn't like looking up records as he feels he has enough to do all ready. I was going to suggest you e-mail Coleen Jones at the Heritage Centre as they have a lot of the Christ Church marriages, but unfortunately Coleen is in hospital. So if you can give me the information off list I will see what I can do for you Dianne Hughes

    3. Hi Folks, A little while back there was some discussion (by Peter, Carollyn, Mary, John & others) of a dairy in Roslyn Road, Belmont. Today I found a "Holiday and Business Guide to Geelong and District" - apparently produced about 1950 (hand-written on front cover). p.26 - photograph of "Riverview Dairy - Roslyn Road, Belmont - where Tomkins Pure Milk is Bottled" p.27 - advertisement of Tomkins' Pastuerised Milk - Riverview Dairy etc. Obviously it's more recent and not back to the time of swamps / lake etc. but if this is the place you were interested in, Peter, and would like a copy, let me know. The Bellarine Historical Society has a heap of information on the HANCOCKs from our own records as well as different bits submitted by descendants. According to what I have here, William HANCOCK and Rebecca STANNARD were both on the Royal George which arrived in Hobart 5th February 1837. They were married in Hobart 11th September 1837. I have Mary Jane's birth as 16th April 1838 - think that looks like a shotgun job! <vbg> but I'm wondering if perhaps the date you have for William Henry might be a baptism date? I've got 17th February 1841. Or else we have the wrong date! 1. [GEELONG] Barwon Region History Expo
    2. Susie Zada
    3. Hi Folks, We're looking at putting on a Family & Local History Expo next year for the Barwon Region. Planning is in the very early stages but in the next few weeks I'll be making contact with all Family History / Genealogy Groups, Local History Groups, Museums, etc. in the region. In the meantime you can help by ensuring that YOUR local group gets in touch with me to make sure I have the right contact details etc. - email addresses would be really helpful. My email address is szada@zades.com.au WHAT IS THE BARWON REGION? Of course the boundary is pretty loose but roughly west to Apollo Bay / Otways, up to include Colac (Colac Otway Shire), Cape Clear etc (Golden Plains Shire), and arcing around to Werribee and all points south and east. This does NOT exclude places from outside this area participating. WHEN? Tentatively we're looking at July 2004 for the first one, then possibly an annual event. WHERE? Probably Geelong to ensure good attendance from Melbourne and across the bay. WHAT? A rough concept at this stage - all day expo on the Saturday - groups can bring their indexes, books for sale, etc. etc. etc., then encourage all participants to open their own society / premises for extended hours on the Sunday (whether you would normally be open or not) to enable visitors from "out-of-town" to visit more than one society on the Sunday based on the information they may have found on the Saturday. COST? At this stage - absolutely no idea but the aim will be to keep everything to a MINIMUM within reason. ============ As I said, this is all in the early planning stage and nothing is locked in, but we need to find out the interest and possible participation of the various groups in the region. So please get in touch with me. We particularly want to hear from newer groups in the region who may only be known locally. Regards ........ Susie Zada Barwon Region representative, RHSV State Committee. N.B. You (or your group) do NOT need to be a member of RHSV to participate in this! It is a Barwon Region History event - to be organised and run by people from groups within the region - in other words, all of us.

Hi, looking at Cliff Young's death notice in the Colac Herald, it says he was Albert Ernest Clifford YOUNG (formerly of Beech Forest, d. 2.11.03 - aged 81 years), son and third child of Albert and Mary YOUNG (both dec.) and brother of Ann Henser, Helen Simmons, Valerie Mintern, Margaret Neave, Eunice Pietsch and Sid. 3. Thank you, Ada, I think you may have put us along the right track with your comments. John Wilson doesn't claim to have been present at the birth, but nominates a witness, which is unreadable even when magnified 400 times, but looks like 'Mrs Choseaux'. > It looks to me as though the "friend & neighbour" might have been asked to > register Thomas when he went to Geelong, and as a person "present at the > birth" he could register the birth "within 6 months" without a fine. I think you are probably right here, except that they just added a year to his date of birth, but if 1865, it fits in nicely between the other two. Probably T A also died at or soon after birth, and they didn't think it worthwhile registering him, until they learned of the penalties when John arrived and died. So they did a quick cover up > It would be interesting to see the ages attributed to the children on a > parent's death certificate. and whether there were two children John & > Thomas, a year apart? No, the number of children declared on the parents' death certificates doesn't agree, and doesn't fit in with what we know from the births. I suppose it is probable that the surviving children weren't told of the deaths in infancy of any siblings and weren't old enough to remember it. If we keep working away and we might land this bloke eventually!
