    1. [GEELONG] Help required with locating Birth certificate- PROBLEM SOLVED
    2. Peter O'Sullivan
    3. Hello Everyone, Many thanks for all your help. I took the advice of " Dorothy" and entered only the year and BDM no (Victorian not local) and came up with my person. The KISS principal worked in this case. Regards, Peter _________________________________________________________________ Hot chart ringtones and polyphonics. 3. Although I don't need help locating the Birth certificate I would like to say I do not reley on Maxi. I have my g grand father's birth certificate and have all the correct numbers, but he does not come up on Maxi, nor does most his family. I tried many different spellings along with just the year and ref. number. Maybe some registrations are missing. I did find mine not on the CD, but on good old fashion fishe. Mine is not from Geelong, but South Melbourne so it is not just the Geelong area. Food for thought. 3. Hello Peter, Perhaps the registration number is local (for Geelong). On certificates this number is often shown in the left gutter of the certificate. These certificates were sent into Melbourne every three months, where they were first arranged by the registration district, alphabetically. Then they were centrally numbered in the centre gutter of the certificate. It is this number which is used in the indexes you use. The Geelong number becomes redundant. Suggest you leave out the registration number in your search, as you probably have the Geelong one. Maybe then the search will work. I always search on mothers maiden name and leave out the family name. That way you get all the children with that mother ... illegitimate, wrong spellings in other names, second families, etc. Hope that helps Regards Ada At 11:40 15-01-04 +1100, you wrote: >Hello, > >I cannot locate a birth entry in the Victorian BDM index. >I have tried via Pioneer Index on microfiche and also via Maxi on-line. > >I know the name, parents names, year of birth (1880) , place of birth >(Geelong) and a registration number. >However when these details are entered, no entry comes up. > >The name is also mentioned on the mother's death certificate along with >the age of the person. > >Can anyone help? > > >Many Thanks, > >Peter > >_________________________________________________________________ >Hot chart ringtones and polyphonics. 3. Hi Peter, Names were often spelt in various ways. Have you tried entering fewer details in your search or using the * option when typing in the name? I have been searching for Delzoppo listings and have found the name was spelt at least 8 different ways - found I get the best results by searching for *ppo OR *ppa OR Del* you might like to try something similar with your name and see if it helps. good luck, Brenda ----- Original Message ----- From: "Peter O'Sullivan" <sullivan2076@hotmail.com> To: <AUS-VIC-GEELONG-DISTRICT-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, January 15, 2004 11:40 AM Subject: [GEELONG] Help required with locating a birth certificate > Hello, > > I cannot locate a birth entry in the Victorian BDM index. > I have tried via Pioneer Index on microfiche and also via Maxi on-line. > > I know the name, parents names, year of birth (1880) , place of birth > (Geelong) and a registration number. > However when these details are entered, no entry comes up. > > The name is also mentioned on the mother's death certificate along with the > age of the person. > > Can anyone help? > > > Many Thanks, > > Peter > > _________________________________________________________________ > Hot chart ringtones and polyphonics. 3. Hello Diane, Did you make a note of the missing marriages? I'm writing an article on "Missing marriages" starting with the CofE non-registered ministers which research began in the Attorney General's Correspondence, went to CofE archives, and the Ararat early newspapers. Also the unregistered marriages of Rev Waterfield 1838-40, NSW maverick presbyterian marriages disallowed by the courts, and a list of CofE BDM at Bendigo And maybe the early NSW marriages performed after Gov Bligh was deposed and anulled by the UK government.... and whatever other anomalies I can find. Just to whet the appetite. Since I've actually said I will submit it, I would like to cover as many anomalies as I can I've just heard that Portland has a local list of unregistered marriages and am wondering if the listing you refer to could be similar. It may be sufficient to just refer to the whereabouts of the list so people can search for themselves (that's how the NSW presbyterian list will be referred to, as I have not seen it myself). Of course, such an article cannot answer all the queries out there, and could never be definitive, but may alert people and encourage a search outside the Registrar General's indexes for answers. Hopeful..... Regards Ada At 19:24 14-01-04 +1100, you wrote: >The Geelong Heritage Centre has copies of the indexes to the St.Andrews >baptisms.
