    3. Hello Eve & others, No Kinnear in the photocopied list I have, but that is only one page. I've dug out a photocopy of the booklet Dianne probably referred to. Though I don't have the actual cover, the title page says: The "Larpent" 1849 1859 [then two pictures of the two sides of a medal] Jubilee Medal It has a brief introduction TO THE DESCENDANTS, a list of The "Larpent" [Reunion] Committee, 1959; a page headed THE "LARPENT" which gives ship's measurements etc; a photo labelled A JUBILEE RECORD - THE LARPENT SURVIVORS; another photo CENTENARY DINNER 1949; two pages telling about THE WRECK OF THE LARPENT; a page about Lang etc; two pages PASSENGER LIST OF SHIP "Larpent" - '(Supplied by the Mitchell Library, Sydney, from the Lang Papers)' No Kinnear there either. Perhaps any Lang migrant descendants could get details of other ships from the Mitchell. In case others are interested, I'll list the surnames given for the Larpent (and can supply Christian names and ages if requested): MATHEWS (my copy has an extra 'T' added by Philip Brown), WOOLLARD, LEWIS, TUCKER, COMBIE, COZENS, BONNEY, DENNY, BOYCE, CROUCH, CARTWRIGHT, ADAMS, STEEDMAN, SHREEVE, FITCHETT, WALKER, BURROWS, FRITH (altered to FIRTH by Philip Brown), FARR, POULTON, RICHARDSON, GILES, CHAUNCEY, COZENS, SWEETAPPLE, BARNES, BLICK, ABSALOM, NORTH, MITCHELL, ODDIE, DAVISON, BRIDSON, GAWNE, ROEBUCK, NAILON, ENGLAND, MARSHALL, McFARLANE, HODGSON, LAYTON, ADAMS, EXELL, WALKER, HOLMES, TECK, FRITH (again queried by Philip Brown), HOLMES, RUGMAN, GELLATLY, REEDS, ROBINSON, McMULLEN, ADCOCK, OLLIVE, RUSSOM, NEEDHAM, HARDY, COLEMAN, PATTISON, ROGERS, MEAD, BELL, GOODCHEAP, DAVIES, FURGE, KELLY, HIGGINS, BUTTS, BONHAM, MULEN, CHURCHYARD, TANDY, & 'Jas. Mary, the HOLMES entries run: HOLMES, William [aged] 24 HOLMES, Albert Madge 19 TECK, William, 23 FRITH, William 26 HOLMES, Sarah 22 Accuracy wasn't their strong point: Francis FITCHETT is entered as James. My grandfather Francis George Bartlett (b 1877 d 1961) married Clara Constance Schram (b 1880 d 1911). Her parents were John Schram ( b ? d 1910) and Ruth Challis (b 1849 d 1937) My grandfather and grandmother lived at Forest. They had 4 children, Ivy May, Ida Vera, Amy Helena, Una Constance. I have heard that Ian Schram's niece had a Schram family tree book printed, but have been unable to locate her. If anyone knows how I can purchase / obtain a copy of this book I would be most grateful. In the meantime, I would appreciate any assistance with names / dates / details. 3. Is the Victorian Government Website where you can get into most of the Government Dept's websites. Births, Deaths & Marriages indexes are also searchable on the site. I think the only difference is the births go to 1923? I think. You have to pay to use it. I forgot you have to pay to search the indexes. Dianne Hughes

    3. If anyone is after further information on Ida Swanston HUMPHRIES I have some information on her husband's ancestors. She married Lancelot RENSHAW, son of William RENSHAW and Maria TREADWELL. I am (very) distantly related to the TREADWELL family through the CHING family. I also have some further information on the same PRICE family - John Simeon Longville's brother, Thomas Longville PRICE married Catherine Laura Bumpstead WALTER. I have quite a bit of information on both the WALTER and BUMPSTEAD families. Amanda From: "Mary Millar" <elthamlax@techinfo.com.au> During the course of my research into the name HUMPHREYS I read the will of James HUMPHRIES, Cab Proprietor of Geelong dated 11.2.1899. He died 17.2.1899 leaving parts of his estate to his sisters Ellen and Ann HUMPRHIES and his daughter Ida Swanston HUMPHRIES. Witnesses were John W. EUSTACE, Solicitor & John Simeon LONGVILLE PRICE Clerk both of Yarra Street, Geelong. His house was located in Normanby Street, known as IRWIN'S Property. He had a farm in MOOLAP.

    3. I havent got the one you want, but John and James had lots of siblings, the eldest of whom was born in 1810. I have only tracked John and James, so it's possible that he's the son of one of the siblings. Shetland is close to Caithness, isn't it? This lot did a lot of travelling back and forth, too. As for the Curries, I have an Alfred Currie O'Shannassy, born Geelong 1865, and I am trying to find out where the Currie bit comes from. So I don't actually have anything on them, except that John Lang Currie was a leading citizen in Geelong at the time of the Scotts. The Siddle reference may be a connection, as the name spelling varies. Do you know whether or not she had any connections to Norfolk, England? I forgot to mention that Alexander Scott, father of John and James, probably had brothers, one of whom may be the grandfather of Arthur Gideon. Also, one of James' sons was called Thomas Turnbull Scott (1865-98), so there must be a Turnbull connection. There are also Turnbull connections with Bairds from Scotland/Geelong, with whom my family is connected. Cheers, Alwynne PS I was at school in Geelong with Loutitts - possibly yours - also a Bell. ----- Original Message ----- From: "N & S Long" <longfamily@ozemail.com.au> To: <AUS-VIC-GEELONG-DISTRICT-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, January 16, 2004 3:57 PM Subject: Re: [GEELONG] GRANT, TURNBULL, LAWLESS, BELL, SCOTT, LOUTTIT, SQUIRES > Hi Alwynne, > Are these Scotts related to Arthur Gideon Scott, born Shetland about 1822? > He married Margaret Grant in geelong Parish in 1853. > On the subject of Currie, do you have a Currie married Pearl Elaine Eveline > LONG or CUNNINGHAM some time after 1915. > Or Margaret CURRIE m Charles Frederick ALLISON in 1888. > I also have Barbara May Siddle (sic) m Austin Reginals Keddell 1939. > Kind regards, > Sharon Long. > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "alwynne mackie" <alwynnem@melbpc.org.au> > To: <AUS-VIC-GEELONG-DISTRICT-L@rootsweb.com> > Sent: Friday, January 16, 2004 3:34 PM > Subject: Re: [GEELONG] GRANT, TURNBULL, LAWLESS, BELL, SCOTT, LOUTTIT, > SQUIRES > > > > I have oodles of information on that family of Scotts. 2. Carollyn Williams
    3. I am hoping the knowledgeable listers may be able to point me in the right direction. I have 2 photos - an aboriginal man and an aboriginal woman. The photos are aged, on photographers card but have no name or date. They show signs of having been in a frame. They were in my late father's possession and I believe them to have come from his place of work, Strachan and Co., Woolbrokers of Moorabool St. I believe they may have been discarded when that company closed. I have compared them to photos in 'The History of Geelong and Corio Bay' but there is no match. I should like to identify them as past local aboriginal inhabitants and give them to the appropriate archive for safe keeping. Carollyn Williams

    3. Hi Alwynne, Are these Scotts related to Arthur Gideon Scott, born Shetland about 1822? He married Margaret Grant in geelong Parish in 1853. On the subject of Currie, do you have a Currie married Pearl Elaine Eveline LONG or CUNNINGHAM some time after 1915. Or Margaret CURRIE m Charles Frederick ALLISON in 1888. I also have Barbara May Siddle (sic) m Austin Reginals Keddell 1939. 3. In the 1970s I wrote to the Mitchell Library in Sydney for details of "Larpent" passengers, and they sent me photocopies of one page of a handwritten list, and of a plan of the berths with names of the families occupying them: "Mr Holmes & Wife" in no 33, but the names of "Mr Holmes & family" with 3 others at the bottom of the plan, as if they may have been moved. 3. I have oodles of information on that family of Scotts. What did you want to know? There were two brothers and a sister (that I know of) who originally came from Wick, Caithness, Scotland. They were John, James and Jean. The Dimboola lot were children of John. James was a timber merchant and lived in Latrobe Terrace, and John had a large number of businesses and properties, both in Victoria and NSW. John died in 1887 and was the first in the large Scott grave (with the large obelisk) in the Eastern Cemetery. There are about twelve other family members in the grave, but not James or his family. Jean (Potter) is there, and my gg-grandmother, Mary Ann O'Shannassy. Let me know what else you want to know, and if you know of any connection between Scotts, and Curries, O'Shannassys, or Sidells, would you please let me know? 1. [GEELONG] Andrew and Martha YOUNG.
    2. Bryan & Melissa Hallyburton
    3. Hello Listers yet again, I am now trying to trace ANDREW YOUNG and his wife MARTHA (nee Miller). Their son Robert married Ann Whitaker. I am trying to find out when and where Andrew and Martha died, also if they might have had more children other than Robert. Again I would like to apply for their death certificates, but have no dates to work with. Might someone be able to advise where to try to research to find out when, where and how they arrived in Australia? I have tried to search the online PROV site but have had no luck, also tried the Unassisted Shipping index but there too no luck. I live in Warrnambool, so would I need to travel to Melbourne to do research? Where might I start to look? Thanking you for your time. regards, Melissa Hallyburton.

    2. Bryan & Melissa Hallyburton
    3. Hello Listers, As I have had such wonderful help with this list I am now asking if some kind soul out there with access can help me to track down two relatives. I would like to apply for death certificates, but I don't know of death dates or places, so it makes it a little hard to track them down. I am looking for JOHN WHITAKER or WHITTAKER (unsure on exact spelling) and his wife MARTHA nee Senior. I am pretty sure that they emigrated out here with a daughter named Ann, who married Robert Young in 1858. Also might anyone be able to tell me IF John and Martha had more children other than Ann? Thanking you for your time, Regards, Melissa Hallyburton, Warrnambool.
