    3. The heritage centre for County Westmeath is Dun na Si, at Moat. They have the parish records for Westmeath on computer, and will do research for 20 pounds. You go on the end of the waiting line for this. When I was there in September 2000, I had to wait 8 weeks for the results, which they posted to me at home. It was worth the 20 pounds though! One of the parishes they found has not been filmed by the LDS, the other was. So I was able to do my own research at home for one of the parishes once I got the results. I would never have found any information on the other without going to the Heritage centre. Good luck. Leonie

    3. G'day Ada, Last time I was in picking up a certificate, I asked about Digger & missing certs. The bloke said they use exactly the same database and that I'd be surprised how many records are not listed with them. I said no I wouldn't, I've been searching for years:-) Basically, if it's not in Digger, they don't have it.. Cheers... Pat... 3. Deakin University Library's Special Collection does hold around 170 articles in the Wathaurung territory series written by Mrs Louis Lane. Most of the original photos in the series are from Lou's archaeological surveys. Many of the articles however do contain copies of photographs of Wathaurung people sourced from historical records. There is no index to the images in the collection. The titles in the Wathaurung series are listed in the Library's catalogue. An author search for "Lane, Louis" should find them all. http://www.deakin.edu.au/library/ This series is a wonderful resource for anyone interested in the Geelong clans. Regards, Heather Cox

    3. I have been following the request for help with missing people on the bdms. Try typing the surname you are looking for in the GIVEN names field. I have found a few 'missing' people this way. I know it makes no sense, but their surname was misspelt in the surname field, but was correct in the given name field. worth a try, anyway. 3. I think my ancestor James TINNING from Longtown north of Carlisle worked for Bells Grocers in 1853. I found these entries in Missing Friends 23rd 26th & 27th May 1853 THE ARGUS If Mr James Tinning of Oak Bank Cumberland has arrived in the colony he can hear of E. L. by addressing a letter to Post Office Ballarat 2nd. & 3rd. & 4th. June 1853 THE ARGUS Mr. EDWARD LAWSON, from Whitrigglers (Whitrigg Lees, Aikton Parish) , Cumberland, is desired to write immediately to James Tinning, at Messrs. T. and W. Bell's Geelong, and say where he can be found. In inquiring from the Cumberland mailing list I was sent the following which I thought may interest people researching early Geelong. July 8th 1853 Carlisle Journal We are glad to observe from Australian papers just received that Mr William Bell, son of Mr James Bell, grocer, Longtown, has recently been elected to the office of councillor for one of the wards of Geelong. Mr W Bell has been about eight years resident in Geelong which now numbers about 20000 inhabitants, and it must be highly gratifying to his friends in this country to find that his fellow citizens hold him in such high regard. If anyone has heard of James Tinning I would love to hear from them as there is no arrival for him at this time. Anne

    3. Hello Ada, Could you please tell me more about the CD that the Registry has signalled? Kindest Regards ...... Corinne in Melbourne, Australia. > Hello Pat, > > I don't have this cd (limited means in old age) can you indicate how many > marriages were not on the indexes? (Bit of an imposition, I know, but if I > refer to the cd and there's only one (which could be named) I don't want to > be taken to task by an irate purchaser who buys only for the one available) > > It will be just my luck that the marriage cd the registry has signalled > will contain most of the marriages I have found unregistered and will make > my article redundant! > > Regards Ada > >
