Can anyone tell me what GBORO stands for ? Digger - Death Index 1921-1985 Thanks Paulette
Hi Allan - yes I have come across this name but have not gone into 'proving' who is who in regards to their previous family history. I would be delighted to have any inform you have on her, if you find her to be who you are seeking. No I don't, but a lady who I believe to be my great great grandmother died in gaol in Geelong in 1855. She was in for the "standard" six months respite for vagrancy. As a result of your studies, are you aware of a Rachel Newton (also known as Newtown)? I am trying to obtain information on this lady to clarify if she is my ancestor. Hi Guys, Wonder if emails to CEOs of companies gets any action? It may or may not but matters not - they've now got the domain named webs back up and running so you can play with the indexes etc. to your heart's content. http://www.zades.com.au/geelong/gdbksrc1.asp and http://www.zades.com.au/bellhs/bpnmsrc1.asp Regards ............ Hi List, Would it be possible, if someone has access to this book, to please look up for me on page 21 and see what is written about a Mr Kinnear. Thanks Eve.
Hi Folks, Just to let you know that the Geelong & District Web Site - in fact all my 2,500+ web pages are - currently off-line and this is 100% out of my control! My ISP - Pipeline in Geelong - has been purchased by Chariot Netconnect and on Friday and Yesterday they "moved" everthing onto the Chariot servers. Either something went wrong or something was forgotten but ALL Pipeline customers with domain names are off the air at the moment and from past experience nothing will happen until after normal office hours on Monday - even though Chariot promised 24-hour support. So, the mailing list is still functioning - you'll just have to be patient re searching the on-line indexes and the web site. I try to do my best ... sometimes it just isn't enough! <vbg> Regards ...... Susie Z
Sorry I've been slow in replying, Mary. I included William Frith or Firth so as to copy the list exactly as it appears in the booklet I have. There are other entries giving the ages as "1" or "Infant", so your Frances should be there. Perhaps Ian Wynd's book will help when it appears. It did occur to me that the position of William Frith's name, which at least suggests that he was standing next in the queue, might have some relevance to the family, if Teek/Teck does. William Frith intrigues me, as Ezra FIRTH (who is listed as FRITH) was certainly on the Larpent, and owned land and a forge in Ceres village in the 1850s. One record of the Wesleyan Church there mentions a William Firth where it should say Ezra. They may have been related, but the names appear far apart in the Larpent list. I have a feeling that William Firth had some connection with the Connewarre area - can anyone enlighten me? Good hunting Marion
Dear Ainslee, I 'm sure this book gave you great pleasure. It is always great to find info on our relatives. Would you please be kind enough to look and see if my grandmother is listed in this book. Her name was Olive Sheridan and her maiden name was Sealey. I know she had the licence for the Grovedale Hotel, The Grand Central Hotel and The Geelong Hotel. The 3 Hotels were all in the Geelong area. Thankyou for your kindness. Judy. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ainslee Hooper" <arhooper@iprimus.com.au> To: <AUS-VIC-GEELONG-DISTRICT-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, November 30, 2003 8:44 PM Subject: [GEELONG] pubs and hotels of geelong > Hi all > for my birthday mum gave me a great book, on all the pubs and hotels over the years in geelong. While extracting names of women to appear in the Geelong Police Court, I am now finding sentences giving 'hard labour'. Does anyone have any idea what jobs women were given in gaol during these times (1860's). Thanks, Pam Jennings
