Hello Would the lady who is compling St Marys Baptism's look for Egans for me notably children of James Egan and Margaret Liston / Lyster/ Lister/ Linton from 1859 Dennis 1859, John, James Bridget Margaret Mary Ellen Thank you Julie
Hi everyone - I am interested in the names of Patrick RYAN and his wife Margaret MOLONEY (or MALONE). The only definite information I have is the birth of their daughter, Mary RYAN, on August 14, 1851, and her christening on August 15, in Geelong. The family was said to be living at Indented Heads at the time, and Patrick was a farmer. There was possibly also a daughter Bridget RYAN born in 1852 . Mary married (Unknown) O'BRIEN, was widowed in 1876, and then married my husband's great-grandfather, Robert BIRD, in Melbourne in September 1888. Is there anyone out there who has connections to this family? - thanks Jenny

Hi Deidre - the Geelong Cemeteries Trust is currently placing all maps of our cemeteries onto our computer and eventually we hope a data base will be accessible on the web. There are still plenty of technical hitches to overcome, along with the Privacy Act so wait and see!! Hello Deidre, This already exists - most local and larger genie societies have the Geelong Cemeteries on microfiche which includes section and plot numbers. The information is also available from the Geelong Cemeteries Trust - details on our research centres page at ....... http://www.zades.com.au/geelong/gdcem.htm What a lot of people don't realise is that the Geelong Cemeteries Trust manage a large number of cemeteries in the region, some of them very large: Highton (Barrabool Hills), Drysdale (Bellarine), Geelong Eastern, Grovedale (Germantown), Leopold (Kensington), Mt Duneed, Portarlington, Geelong Western. (not sure if I missed any!) Last December, Pam replied to a question on this list about a CD and her reply at the time was ........ "our records are not yet available on CD as we still have issues with our database suiting all computers and meeting the Privacy Act. Hopefully we will have access to our records in some shape or form soon! Pam Jennings (Geelong Cemeteries Trust)." The Bellarine Peninsula Cemeteries (Drysdale, Leopold, Portarlington, Newington, Lone Burials, and the still to be completed (Queenscliff / Pt Lonsdale) are available on CD with photos, transcriptions, and burials without headstones. Hi Susie are there any plans afoot to have the Geelong cemeteries details listed by plot and /or name a mammoth task I know but it would be an asset to searchers regards Deirdre deirdremc@bigpond.com
Thank you for all the quick replies. It doesn't look like she is directly connected. I have John SUTHERLAND who married Harriet SUMMERS in 1854 in Geelong. Just by the names I thought she might be connected. John and Harriet had the following children: Descendants of John SUTHERLAND ------------------------------ 1-John Sutherland b. 1824, Westminster, London, England, d. 21 Jan 1888, Geelong, VIC, Australia +Harriet Summers b. 1836, Hobart Town, TAS, Australia, d. , Geelong, VIC, Australia |--2-John Sutherland b. 1855, Geelong, VIC, Australia, d. 1935, Mentone, VIC, Australia |--2-Lawrence Sutherland b. 1858, Geelong, VIC, Australia, d. 1859, Vic, Australia |--2-Harriet Sutherland b. 1859, Geelong, VIC, Australia, d. I have been trying to find where Harriet SUMMERS died and thought this Harriet might be her, just hoping the age was wrong. But it doesn't look like it. Hi All, I am seeking information on the Schram family. My grandfather Francis George Bartlett (b 1877 d 1961) married Clara Constance Schram (b 1880 d 1911). Her parents were John Schram ( b ? d 1910) and Ruth Challis (b 1849 d 1937) My grandfather and grandmother lived at Forest. They had 4 children, Ivy May, Ida Vera, Amy Helena, Una Constance. I have heard that Ian Schram's niece had a Schram family tree book printed, but have been unable to locate her. If anyone knows how I can purchase / obtain a copy of this book I would be most grateful. In the meantime, I would appreciate any assistance with names / dates / details. Thanks in advance Reg Hammond
Dear Jennifer, Thank you so much for that information, I can add it to his name. William Reynolds was my Great Grandfather. Could you tell me where you obtained the information ? I wondered if there might be some archival photos of him still in existence. Could SKS please do a lookup for the Death of Harriet SUTHERLAND in 1912. I do not know if SUTHERLAND is her maiden name or married name. She was buried in Geelong Cemetery in 1912 at the age of 33. Her grave just states her surname, no other details. I am trying to find if she is connected to my tree. Thank you, Justin Heath McDonald

Hello listers The Australian Ex-Prisoners of War Memorial was opened in the Ballarat Botanic Gardens by the Chief of the Australian Defence Force, General Peter Cosgrove AC MC on Feb. 6th, 2004 in the presence of an estimated crowd of 11,000 people of which I was privileged to be one. The booklet produced for this opening ceremony states: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "The Australian Ex-Prisoners of War Memorial is dedicated to all Australians who became prisoners of war while fighting the enemy. The names include: those who were serving in the Australian Defence Forces; Australians serving in the Merchant Navy; and Australians who enlisted in the allied Defence Forces and were made prisoners of war while fighting the common enemy. No complete list of names of Australian prisoners of war has previously been compiled. Records from the Australian War Memorial, the Department of Veterans' Affairs, the National Archives of Australia, the State Library of Victoria, military histories, history web-pages, newspapers and replies resulting from an Australia-wide appeal for names have been consulted. There are errors and gaps in the records available. Unfortunately some names will have been overlooked. Provision has been made for additional names to be added to the Memorial. If you are aware of a name which you believe should have been included please write to the: Australian Ex-POW Memorial Committee c/- R&SL Rooms, 2 Lyons Street South, Ballarat, VIC 3350, Australia. enclosing documentary evidence supporting your recommendation." -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The memorial has the names of more than 35,000 Australian POWs (about 8,600 died or were killed when they were prisoners of war, more than 4,000 have no known grave) arranged in alphabetical order, grouped by conflict, commencing with the Boer War on the left through to the Korean War, etched into the 130m long black granite wall. There were no Australia POWs in the Vietnam War. The memorial is an inspiring stone structure providing a moving setting for this important list of 35,000 names. At this time I do not know of a published list of the names carved into the memorial, but no doubt a list will be published on paper. There are over 23,000 from the Far East and South West Pacific listed on a database on the Australian War Memorial web-site (see link below) There are a number of valuable web sites which may be useful for research into your Australian military connections, including: The Australian War Memorial at; http://www.awm.gov.au/ This excellent web-site has many databases such as: Roll of Honour http://www.awm.gov.au/database/roh.asp World War 1 Nominal Roll http://www.awm.gov.au/database/nroll.asp World War 2 Nominal Roll http://www.ww2roll.gov.au/ Australian Military Forces [AMF] Prisoner of War and Missing, Far East and South West Pacific Islands http://www.awm.gov.au/database/awm232.asp Australian Red Cross Wounded and Missing Enquiry Bureau files http://www.awm.gov.au/database/1drl428.asp The Commonwealth War Graves site at: http://www.cwgc.org/ (Netscape friendly but not IE friendly) Australians in the Boer War, Oz-Boer Database Project http://www.pcug.org.au/~croe/oz_boer0.htm If you have Australian military connections in your family research, or an interest in Australian history put the New Memorial at Ballarat on your list of "must visit" places.
