    1. [GEELONG] Springvale/St Kilda Cemetery Website, (Glaysher)
    2. J&T Williams
    3. Hey, isn't the new Springvale/ St Kilda website of great value! However there are 3 discrepancies which I have noted and referred to the Trust authorities for investigation, and possible confirmation by checking of the actual plaques etc. As they relate to an extended family which was involved with Geelong at one time, I am detailing them for anyone on this list with an interest. I will list the results of the Trusts investigation in due course. John W (NSW) 1) Alexander Glaysher, age 27 bur 6-11-1896 Ref (Cemetery ref 9648) (BDM ref 15269) This is in fact a female, AlexanDRA Glaysher (nee Arnold), first wife of Percy Charles Glaysher) 2) Alexander M Glaysher, age 13 months, buried 1896 (Cemetery ref 7747) (BDM ref 7747) This is in fact a female, AlexanDRA May, (daughter of the above) 3) There is an entry for Glaysher with no details other than the niche number. Boyd Chapel, Court Niche, Section A, Niche 324. As it is next to Eliza Jane Glaysher (nee Oliver, second wife of Percy Charles above) in niche 325, It could reasonably be assumed that it is in fact Percy Charles Glaysher, b.1862 London, d.1944 Elwood, age 82, parents Jno Glaysher/Martha Jacobs (BDM record10627). He has not been located anywhere else to date

    3. Hello Pam, My Grandfather, F H Daniel was an Ironmonger in Geelong. Going through some old photos recently found a photo of the shop in all its glory. Has been converted into a home now and last time we visited Geelong it was still there. Not sure of the address but think it was just off Moorabal St. You are welcome to use it if you think it would be interesting enough for your newsletter. Cheers, Bill Willett, Benalla. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Pam & Trevor Jennings" <tjennings@bigpond.com> To: <AUS-VIC-GEELONG-DISTRICT-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, 8 March 2004 5:10 Subject: [GEELONG] Geelong Storekeepers > The Geelong Family History Group magzine for October will feature Geelong storekeepers. I would like to obtain a transcript of the headstone, and specifically whether the full name of her husband is given. I am unsure if she was married to William Edwin Stanley Tansing or William Henry Tansing. Something on the stone may give me some clue. There is some confusion and the BDM's do not help Thanks John

    3. Hi Caroline& Susie More on School & a Tuckfield connection. under EDUCATION in Geelong Advertiser 3 Jan 1868 "PORTLAND HOUSE, Educational Establishment for Young ladies , Yarra Street Geelong. Conducted by The Misses Tuckfield assisted by visiting teachers. School duties to be resumed after the christmas vacation on Tuesday 14th January." Background information: Caroline and Emily Tuckfield were the daughters of Rev Francis Tuckfield and his first wife Sarah who died in Maitland N.S.W.1854 After her death, Tuckfield and family the moved to Hobart where his daughters attended a school run by Mary Stevens. Mary was a musician and painter. At age 30 she married Francis, they moved back to Geelong, had four children and on to Portland,Tuckfield's final ministry, where he died in Oct. 1865 Mary Tuckfield moved back to Geelong soon after with her young family. Caroline (23) and Emily (21) lived with her and she helped them with their school for girls. Caroline married Rev. Henry Greenwood( Minister of Steiglitz) at Portland House 20 March 1869. Emily was married to Rev.George Schofield at the Weslyan Parsonage in Drysdale by her brother Rev.James W. Tuckfield on 16 April 1872. It is doubtful that the school went beyond the last date and it certainly was not in operation in 1847. Sorry Caroline!! This may be a minor entry for the April issue Pam?
