    3. Hi Ann This is probably Robert's child, Henry. This time from the NSW online index http://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/familyHistory/search.htm Registration Number Last Name Given Name(s) Father's Given Name(s) Mother's Given Name(s) District 4968/1858 JACKSON HENRY ROBERT L RACHEL BALRANALD Jennifer -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Anne Sent: Tuesday, 22 May 2007 9:28 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [GEELONG] William and Robert JACKSON Goodmorning everybody, I need some help to sort out the children of my two Jackson brothers please. I have William Jackson arriving to Point Henry on the "Andromache" in 1849. On the same voyage is Maria Neal and her parents and siblings. After arrival William and Maria marry and I would like to know the names of their children please? Some time later, perhaps just a few years Williams brother Robert arrives in Victoria. I don't know if he is married at home in Norfolk or gets married on arrival to Geelong but I would like to know the names of all his children please. I'm fairly sure Robert had at least two children... Robert born Geelong c1855 and Henry born Lower Murray c1859. The name of Roberts wife would be an added bonus if possible please. Both men were born in Norfolk c 1825. A round trip to the nearest gene library or LDS is nearly 3 hours so any help and information about these brothers would be wonderfull. many thanks Ann in Brisbane ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ For on-line indexes and information on Geelong and District http://www.zades.com.au ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

    3. Hello to the Cooper searchers out there. I also have Coopers to find but havent had much luck to date. The information I have is that my mother in law was a Gladys Jean Cooper. She was one of six or seven girls in a family whose names were Violet, Dorace, Maisie, Elsie, Ruby and ????? Somewhere I have a hand written list of descendants back to Richards, and Povey names, and was told it goes back to the Lord Nelson Fleet. But none of that has been able to be proven. The details I have on Gladys Jean Cooper are:that her parents were Alfred Herbert Cooper and Mary Louisa (called May) Richards. Parents of Alfred Herbert Cooper were Thomas Cooper and Elizabeth ann Earl. Parents of May Richards were Abraham Richards and Isabella Thompson. Do you have any of these Coopers please? Love to hear from you if you can help with my lot. Margaret

    2. Janette Pfeifer
    3. Hello to Marion, It's Jan Pfeifer here. In my files I've got oodles of Coopers and I've got a John COOPER & a Hannah who had an Eliza Ann COOPER who married 27.4.1892 in Victoria to Edmund LARCOMBE born 29.10.1857 in Mt.Duneed near Geelong & they had 3 children... Leslie John 1893-1968, Frederick Charles 1895-1972 & Hannah Lillian 1897-1951. Eliza was buried 1946 in Mt.Moriac & Edmund was buried 1936 also in Mt.Moraic. I haven;t got any more children listed. Is John Cooper & wife Hannah the ones you were looking for? Regards, Janette in Warragul South, Victoria

    1. [GEELONG] Searching Digger Indexes; COOPER look-up
    2. Marion Stainsby
    3. Many thanks, Gaylene. for filling in details about the family of John COOPER and Hannah BIRD, which will be very useful in my files for future work, and I'm especially grateful for your time and trouble. You kindly went beyond the Digger Pioneer Index, which gives me a more complete coverage than I had managed through the on-line BDMs, and of course adds the important item of the Place. Modewarre, though possible, is not quite convincing. For my particular purpose at the moment, I still need to pinpoint which John COOPER family was in Highton (or near enough to attend the Highton church) in 1868, and I'm assuming that it was the family that lived near the Wandana Heights Lookout in 1861. But I don't know that the mother of this family had been Hannah BIRD, and the only way I can think of checking is to find some details in BDMs in the 60s which might give me a clue to follow up. Is there some way in which someone can search the Digger Indexes by place-name? One would have to know what possible localities are likely to be named at this stage - Geelong seems too broad, and I've seen Chilwell, Ashby, and Barrabool, but this may depend on where the current Registrar lived at a particular time, and I'm not familiar with them (and that handy GFG Library in Belmont has been closed). No COOPER was so kind as to get buried in the Highton Cemetery in the 1800s to give me a lead that way. I have downloaded 5 pages (i.e. 100 entries) of births and deaths between 1850 & 1880 for COOPERs whose father was called John! It looks as if the Digger Indexes may be the only way to sort these out - if only they can be searched by Place. All I know is that they had a son who was alive in 1914 - I don't know his first name, and I don't know if he grew up in the district or if his comments were based on his own memory or on family stories. I'm not even sure that his mother was MRS COOPER when she sang in 1868. If John was renting a farm in 1861, I assume he was married, but one can't be sure. Any information or suggestions would be VERY gratefully received. We have a deadline of the end of June to hand the first draft of the book to our layout person, and there are many loose ends to research as well as much writing to do - and I am very slow. This list is often a life-saver, especially for those of us with wobbly legs - and so are all the people who selflessly copy book references and everything else onto websites. Thanks, guys - have a medal! Marion

    2. Susie Zada
    3. Hi Ada, That's the way I was thinking too but the list of Councillors / Mayors put paid to that idea. BUT it appears that there were two "levels" of election because in the Geelong Advertiser 9th November 1867 ....... "Crs REEVES & MATTHEWS elected Aldermen for Kardinia & Bellarine Wards of Geelong Town Council replacing HEDRICK & ASHMORE respectively". So it seems they were all elected Councillors but the title Alderman was given to those elected to represent a specific Ward within the Council. I think at that stage there were four wards and it was possibly one Alderman per Ward. That seems to make sense! Regards ......... Some of the beautiful housing in other areas of Geelong that have totally inappropriate units and dreadful houses. just look at East Geelong and what the City Council or Clown Hall, as my daughter refers to them, have done there.
