    2. Marion Stainsby
    3. (Thank you, Alwynne Merritt, for a terrific reply to my recent query about George DEANS. I'll be ringing you when I can.) Now, is there a similar nice person who can look up this reference for me > RICHARDSON, F Daughters of Australia : The Story of Matthew > Flinders - a School for Girls p 5 or tell me anything about Frances Lamb RICHARDSON, d/o Philip RICHARDSON & Frances STOW, born in London, who married John HENSHAW in 1867? Shirley Mesman sent me an article from the GFHG's "Mysteries, Motives and Murders of Early Geelong & District 1839-1887 p 13" in response to my request for HENSHAW lookups two years ago, but that's all I've got apart from records of what John did for the Highton Wesleyan Church when he was here briefly from 1872-1874. I had also asked the following: >> HENSHAW, Mr Drownings in Geelong & District 1836-1900 p 112 >> HENSHAW, Mr Geelong : the First 150 Years 26 Dec > > Judging by other references which I have been able to look up, > there were HENSHAWs around Moolap at the same period, who went > bankrupt running Pleasure Gardens, but I don't know if these were > the same family. Any help will be gratefully received. I'd be very grateful for any help; thank you, Marion

    3. Hi Betty, Glad you would like them too - I thought it was great when my cousin in Sydney sent them. he said to make a note of any changes you make on your PC, JUST IN CASE, though everything worked fine with me. best wishes, Gillian 1. From Windows Explorer, locate the folder, Digger. The path to mine was C:\digger 2. In Digger, locate the file Vicp.ini This stands for Vic Pioneers and is the file to initiate the program. Note there are other *.ini files for the other CDs with similar obvious abbreviations. 3. Insert the Pioneers CD. Don't let it run, but open it to view its files and folders. 4. Select the folder DATA and copy it to the digger folder in your hard drive (ie normally C as above). Don't copy just the individual files in the folder, copy the whole folder complete. Remove the CD. 5. Rename the DATA folder in digger to vicp 6. Open the vicp.ini file in digger (the .ini file, not the renamed folder) 7. Edit the last two lines to read, DBPath=C:\digger\vicp & MsgPath=C:\digger\vicp (assuming C is your hard drive) 8. Go to 'All Programs' 'Macbeth Applications' and click on 'Pioneer Index Victoria, Digger' The details should then appear as though you were running the CD 9. Repeat one by one for the other CDs, making sure each works before moving to the next. Having done it it is great. It takes up a fair bit of space on your hard drive, with five CDs, each with a max of nearly 5 Gb, although some are much smaller. If space is short, then forget it. 1. [GEELONG] George DEANS
    2. Marion Stainsby
    3. Are there any old Geelong Methodists out there who can remember a couple who trained and conducted the singing for Sunday School Anniversaries in the 1930s and 40s? We called them "George and Pussy behind their backs, and "George" used to accompany us on his cornet (and probably drowned us out, which may have improved the music). I presume that "Pussy" (people didn't have names in those days, she was just "Mrs Deans") used to play the piano, but can't remember clearly. I do recall her wearing a fur around her neck, and thought the "Pussy" referred to that. But now, researching Highton families, I have found an Eliza Tabitha Glanfield who married a George Deans in 1896, and died aged 99 in 1868 in Geelong. If the "Pussy" stood for "Tabby", this might add up to something. But there were other George Deans - at least one of them a prominent Methodist preacher but definitely not the cornet- playing type. Any information or suggestions? Marion

    3. I have just had an experience where I asked for look ups for JUDD's on the BDM CD's which I am very grateful for receiving the information from a couple of kind people, as I do not have access to them. Thank you to those people, they know who they are. Problem then emerged that I did not agree with some of the information that I had already in my records, thought I must have had it wrong. I had the headstones read and they did not agree with dates and NAMES on CD's. From there I had the cemetery records checked and they agree with the headstones, so somewhere along the line it seems the transcribing on to the CD's has slipped up. Thought it worth letting you know that they are worth checking if you are not sure they are correct. William Snr b 1785 was baptised "In Ryland" at Alvah, Banff and married to Jean at Forglen, Banff. So my Stewart/Stuart ancestors were mainly from Banff.
