'My' Thomas' parents listed on the marriage cert dated 13/10/1879 are John Gillett and Jane Demick/Dermick, can't quite make it out (I suspect the John could well have been used instead of James - yes?) Now it seems from Susan's info, 'my' Thomas was the grandson of Jacob and Caroline, not a nephew. Help!! - I am having a very challenging day, so I may well be mis-understanding much of the detail. Graham, it looks like our families are not connected - yet! I do appreciate your offer to exchange info. Look forward to the next chapter on this elusive man in our family. He must have been a good chap really. He had eight children from his first marriage and when his wife died, there were five living, the youngest 18. then he took on two youngsters eight years and two years - (I'd have run for my life..........). thanks dorothy ~~~~~~~~~~~

    3. Hello Sherrie, Graham & Dorothy, Thank you all for your additional info re: GILLET's from Lara/Geelong region. Graham, I cannot see any connection between your GILLETS and mine at this stage, however they did all emanate from Somersetshire, so you just never know if we can take the line back another generation or so. Dorothy, it looks like our GILLET trees do connect now - I just hadn't taken the line back far enough to make the link. Thanks Sherrie for doing that for us! Sherrie, yes I now do have 10 children for Jacob & Caroline GILLET. If by chance you have researched the descendants of James Thomas GILLETT (1873-1963 son of Jacob & Caroline) and Jane COE, then I would be particularly interested in that line. Am happy to send Sherrie & Dorothy what I have to date. Will contact off list to exchange info. Jacob William GILLET's parents were 'William GILLETT & Elizabeth PESTER' Willliam's parents are also 'John GILLETT & Mary AUSTIN'. John & Mary GILLETT arrived on the 'Oliver Lang' in 1855 with 4 children that I know of. There was also another brother to Jacob & Thomas, James c.1803 died 1876 Victoria. 3. Hi Susan I've just received some information about 'my' Thomas Gillett - this researching sure take time doesn't it! and is especially difficult when two wives have the same first name !! Thomas Gillett, b: 1822, Drayton, Somersetshire, England. Left Plymouth 10th March 1855 aboard "Ravenscraig" - arrived at Point Henry 24th June 1855. He was literate, Anglican and with him was a wife Elizabeth (nee Palmer), two stepchildren and two infants. They then had three more children. This Elizabeth died in 1877. He then married 'my' Elizabeth Jane Pittard (nee Ballantyne) on 13th October 1879 in the Wesleyean Parsonage, Geelong. She was a widow with two small children. They did not have any children. He died in 1822 - I have yet to obtain this death cert. Now, is he related to 'your' Gillett/s? look forward to your comments. regards dorothy ~~~~~~~~~ -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]]On Behalf Of SusanThompson Sent: Tuesday, 15 May 2007 9:11 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [GEELONG] Thomas Gillett Hi Dorothy, I am connected by marriage to two GILLETT brothers from the Lara/Geelong area, who married two sisters - my GG-aunts.
