    3. Hi Jane, you're looking in the wrong state, NSW is a lot further north :-) It is Victorian records for Mt Moriac, there's an excellent pay per view site at https://online.justice.vic.gov.au/bdm/index-search?action=getHistIdxSearchCriteria I had a quick look, and there is one record resulting from that search, but you'll have to pay 99 cents to see what it is. The details are more again, but are fairly inexpensive. 3. Hello Jane I have found an Ann (no E) born in 1860 at Dune? Victoria whose parents were John Burke and Jane Hulahan with the reference # being Victorian BDM # 8739 which may or may not be the right one but I guess it is worth pursuing just in case. 3. Hi Folks, Thank you to all the people who contributed to resolving this location. I can now confirm that it's in CRESSY I've just found a photo on the SLV web site which shows these actual buildings ............ http://catalogue.slv.vic.gov.au/vwebv/holdingsInfo?bibId=1747989 The buildings are in the photo H87.52/131 The images come from glass negs and were taken c1909-1914 For those who haven't noticed lately, the SLV catalogue now includes some WONDERFUL additions. i.e. I searched for CRESSY in the Picture Catalogue This group of 5 photos are now out of copyright and you now get the option of downloading these type of images in high definition TIFF files - most are over 40 MB so be patient. You can also download a standard JPEG version - not as big. Now I just have to update the web site! This just proves the power of Mailing Lists and the web. Regards .................. 3. The Bussorah Merchant was engaged as a convict transport from 1828 to 1831 - the year that an office was established in London to encourage migration to Australia, and didn't that idea take off!. Sydney Gazette and New South Wales Advertiser, Thursday 15 December, 1831 (courtesy NLA) ARRIVAL. >From Dublin, yesterday, whence she sailed the 16th of August last, the ship Bussorah Merchant, Captain Moncrief, with 198 male prisoners. Surgeon Su- perintendent, James Gilchrist, Esq. The guard consists of a detachment of the 4th Regiment, accompanied by 4 women and 6 children, under the command of Lieut. Lonsdale. Passenger, E. M'Dowell, Esq., Solicitor-General. The question remains - where was the new bub christened - if a christening took place on land. Could Captain Moncrief have performed a christening? Cheers Barbara

    3. Ordinarily you can go to NSW State Records, Immigration, and look up all the passengers on a particular ship. The little ones have the notation 'bv'. You would then try searching NSW BDM's which theoretically should have list the birth registration, but state registration was not a requirement until 185?. The records prior to that have been transcribed from church registers and, it would seem, not all registers were accessed. I'm still looking for birth of my g-grandfather in 1846-47. Unfortunately, the earliest listing State Records seem to have on Bussorah Merchant is 1839, but it was a convict ship, and there seems to be a wealth of information in that area. I believe the James Brown arrived Geelong, 5 January, 1853, so that birth registration should be in Victorian records. http://srwww.records.nsw.gov.au/indexes/ www.bdm.nsw.gov.au Cheers Barbara
