Di I am investigating an Edward BROUGHTON of Duneed, who was declared insolvent in 1877. His parents were Robert & Mary, also of Duneed at the time. It seems they all went to Strathbogie a couple of years later. Happy to share information. Hi Pam You were right. GFHS holds transcriptions of baptismal records for St Paul's and many other churches. An enquiry to them got me the results I desired. Just for the record, Thomas BOUCHER was born 20 March 1852 in Modewarre and baptised 9 August 1853 at St Paul's Geelong. Mother Ann, father Thomas, a farmer. Minister T Stretch. Hello Susie (and Chris), Many thanks for your creative searching and its results, which are extremely helpful. I've been doing a little more digging myself. Since your messages I put searches in the familysearch and ancestry.co.uk sites for BEACHIM and Australia - and found on familysearch an 1881 census listing of - Elizabeth C. BEACHIM Head W (i.e. widow) Female 50 St Giles, Norwich, Norfolk, England James BEACHIM Son U Male 24 Melbourne, Australia Cigar Maker Alice BEACHIM Daur U Female 20 Melbourne, Australia Mantle Maker (Milliner) Sarah BEACHIM Daur U Female 16 Melbourne, Australia Wool Embroidress Dwelling 43 Royal Terrce Census Place Newington, Surrey, England Family History Library Film 1341122 Public Records Office Reference RG11 Piece / Folio 0539 / 50 Page Number 6 AND Myrtle BEACHIM 18 is found as a General Servant in Dwelling 31 Arundel Street Census Place London, Middlesex, England And in ancestry.co.uk in the Australian Electoral Roll database for 1856 I found BEACHIM, Zebidee Pryce in 93 Flinders Street East, Eastern Hill, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, as a Book-keeper working for Nelson and Edelman of 44 Flinders Lane East, as a Book-keeper at a salary of £100. Also on ancestry I found the Elizabeth family in Newington, London, in the 1871 census, which shows her married, a Butcher's Wife (Zebedee's father was a butcher) but no sign of Zebedee. And I located Elizabeth's death in 1887. I have James and John in the 1891 censuses but not the girls yet. And I've just found Elizabeth and family returning to England on the Lincolnshire too - but I wonder where Sarah was, just missed off the list perhaps as she was only a baby. I'd seen the Beachim (or however it was spelt!!) entries but had discounted them because of the T and T.B. - I must view things a bit more liberally obviously when trying to find Zebedee after his return to England, and if indeed he did die between 1871-1891. The search goes on. Once again many thanks. Regards, Margaret in a wet Warwickshire. ________________________________ From: Susie Zada <szada@zades.com.au> To: aus-vic-geelong-district@rootsweb.com Sent: Wednesday, 2 September, 2009 12:21:08 PM Subject: Re: [GEELONG] ZEBEDEE PRYCE BEACHIM Hi Margaret, With a little bit of creative searching using wildcards you'll find most of the answers here ... http://tinyurl.com/7acn6 using both INWARD and OUTWARD passengers ........... Some of the Moriac/Mt Moriac area is in the (administrative) Parish of Duneed, County Grant and for someone born in that Parish, their birth place could well be described as Duneed. Many birth places were abbreviated in indexes and Dune? is most likely Duneed Before 1864 the Mt Moriac cemetery was called the Duneed cemetery. This changed when the nearby Mount Duneed cemetery was opened. For some time afterwards, there could be confusion as to whether someone buried in the "Duneed" cemetery was in Mt Moriac or Mt Duneed ! Hi Jane, Further to Nola's comments Dune is possibly an abbreviation for Duneed the parish that Mt Moriac was part of. Also variations of spellings very common on certificates and can even be in the transcription from oringinal record to modern bdm records. That is the correct one. DUNE is an abbreviation for Duneed. The name was changed to Mount Moriac in 1864. Hi Jane, There is a bit of a knack to using the web site you don' put in too much information. Try just putting in the surname and the fathers first name with a small number of years in the date range. If you are to specific you will not pick up anything as no all information is listed in the same way we enter it.
