    3. As a new researcher in Australia I have recently posted info on a "MILLER" family who lived in Tongala in 1915 on the AUS-VIC-L@rootsweb.com list and received one helpful reply. Now I have also found the AUS-VIC-CENTRAL-L@rootsweb.com list and wonder whether I should post the info here for research regarding the townships of Tongala, Bendigo, and Reservoir? Helpful direction appreciated. Iain Thomson, Victoria BC Canada

    1. [AVC] Mystery deaths/burials
    2. Peter Robinson
    3. My wife's great grandfather, James Anderson, married twice. His first wife, Jane Fellows, died in 1853 and her death certificate records that she had been married in Victoria, for 7 years (thus making it around 1846), to James Anderson. The certificate records five children - none of whom are noted as 'dead': John 6 Samuel 5 Agnes 4 Catherine 3 Infant 10 days Jane's cause of death was listed as 'Childbed' For some reason James' first marriage and the offspring are not noted on the second marriage certificate (1854). However, birth certificates for first few children of the second marriage all note the first marriage and the deaths of four of the children - Samuel being the only survivor. Diligent searches of the indexes has failed to locate a record of the first marriage or any of the five births. Nor has any trace of the deaths of the four deceased children. >From other evidence it is known that James held land in the Bulla/Wellington/Kakallo area. His first wife and her parents are all buried in the old Kalkallo cemetery - and the first few children of the second marriage were all born at Bulla. Can anyone throw any light on how I might trace records of these missing events? 1. [AVC] Eric Foote/Val Foote
    2. Wade Julie
    3. Dear List I am trying to find my uncle and aunt as above. Although we haven't heard from Eric since the end of WW2, his ex-wife, Val, used to write to Eric's family in the UK. However, we haven't heard from her in two or three years. Our last know address for Val is as follows but we have had one letter returned: 2/52 Railway Crescent Moorabin Victoria Is this the right list for this town? Eric would be 75 this year and we think Val was a little older. This tends to suggest that she has moved, possibly to an old people's home, or passed away. Eric was actually christened Alfred (Forbes?) Foot and born in Guildford, Surrey. Val was his second wife. He had a son by his first and we know nothing of them at all. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Julie

    1. [AVC] ROBINSON. Seymour
    2. Dot Wells
    3. Hello everyone, I have been searching for many years for ANY information on my mysterious Grandmother, Mabel ROBINSON. Mabel was born 5 Dec 1893 at Carlton Women's Hospital to Mary ROBINSON. (No father listed) Mary was listed on Nannas birth certificate as being aged 23 and born in Seymour. The only birth I can locate for Mary in the area and in the general time frame is for a Mary Jane ROBINSON, born to George and Mary Jane (nee JOHNSTON) ROBINSON in Mangalore in 1870. This Mary Jane married James Ernest SPEIRS in 1892, before my Nanna was born. Mary died in 1946 and her death certificate does not list Mabel as one of her children. My Grandmothers 1920 W.A marriage certificate states that her parents names were William Thomas ROBINSON and Mabel nee JOHNSON. Her parents were listed as both deceased on her marriage certificate and Nanna always said they were buried in Seymour. I can find absolutely no trace of these 2 anywhere, but the above Mary ROBINSONs parents were both dead by then (1908 & 1909). I tend to believe that Nanna may have been raised by her Grandparents or Aunt/Uncle as one of their own. My Nanna used to talk about living at 13 Emily St, Seymour as a child, but the Seymour Historical Soc says that the houses were not numbered until the 1940s. My Nanna was living in W.A by at least 1907 and I can find no trace of her supposed parents here either. The first record I can find for Mabel in WA is the Electoral Roll for Southern Cross, where she is listed as working as a domestic for Alexander and Harriet McKAY, of Hope Hill Farm. Alexander and Harriet were also the witnesses at Mabels wedding and Mabels illegitimate daughter was also born at their farm in 1916. I wonder if they may have been relatives? I have contacted the Anglican Church Wangaratta Diocesan Registry and they have no record of Nans Baptism in the area. Nanna was very secretive about her family, and apart from saying that she was an only child and lived in Emily St, Seymour, she said little else. The only one of her children that is surviving, is also very secretive and tells me to "stop trying to dig up dirt" whenever I ask about the family. Of course, this makes me even more determined to find out!<g> I hope you can understand this jumble and any help or advice would be VERY much appreciated! 3. Marg The Census act, since its inception in this country, has been very strict in its confidentiality, and as a result, we have been diligently destroying our nations history every five years or so. Only one census that I am aware of survived all of this - one in South Australia that survived the late 1800's. You would have to find a South Australian site with this information. In the history of the Census, there has been only one exception to this rule, and that was the last Census, when the Australian Bureau of Statistics gave us the opportunity to tick yes and have our names placed in a timecapsule. All of those people who are terrified of Censuses because of the confidential nature of them need not fear, because, true to the Census Act, they are all, indeed, destroyed. And, I might add, it's a bit of a shame, because they contain nothing that the Government can't find out about us already. Cheers Chris
