Now have the birth certificate. Trouble with me is I get so excited when I make a discovery or get a certificate that I don't READ things properly. It was on Joseph Ambrose Smith's Death Certificate that I eventually found that he had been 8 years in the Colonies (Victoria) which tied in nicely, timewise, with his discharge from the Army in 1889. It was also declared that he was married to Mary Brown and the children were named (in 1897) as Bertie, 7, Edith, 5 and Alexander, 4. The assumption has surely to be made that they were all his children but born before he and Mary Brown were married.
