The Argus, 9 February, 1871: Two more accidents with blasting powder occurred on Tuesday, one at Castlemaine and the other at Ballarat, the circumstances connected with each being precisely similar. The fact is thus reported by the Mount Alexander 'Mail of Wednesday:- Yesterday two miners, named respectively William Richman and Thomas Davis, met with very serious injuries during the operation of blasting at the claim of Messrs Walters and Bibby. The charge had not gone off, and they were employed in drawing it out when it exploded with terrible effect on the two men. One of the men has his eyes damaged, but it is thought that the sight will not be permanently injured; his right arm also was fractured below the elbow, and the exposed baits of his body scorched. The other escaped with less injury, and it was chiefly confined to the face, which received the full force of the explosion. The other accident is noticed in the Ballarat Star as follows :.......
