"My" John was deported to Tasmania in 1846 but I know that he was released at the end of his sentence in 1852 and he left Launceston on 19/10/1853 for Melbourne on the ship Yarra Yarra. The trail goes cold after that, but if you could please pass on the email address for Terry at the cemetery I'd like to see what information he has. And BTW my Knowles family are from Liverpool, but when you go back further the largest group of Knowles's originate in Bolton, Lancashire so it's possible your ancestors from Kent might have moved down from there.
