She appears to have been put in state care in 1904. Emily married John Cossich in 1905 I have 3 letters showing Emily was living with a brother and hoping to place Jeltina in temporary care until they could adopt her but it doesn't appear that happened, rather she went into state care and stayed there or was adopted out. The information recorded in entry 368 of 1904 in GRG 27/9 Register of Admissions to Industrial School reads - Ackland Jeltina Caroline 12mths born 15.10.1903 regd. mother Emily Beatrice Ackland c/o Richard Ackland, Bridgewater father Jelta Slater wood carter Stirling West Court of Committal - Dept Reason for admission - Sentenced until 18yrs being a neglected & illegitimate child whose mother is unable to maintain, vide 908 /04 Date of leaving - 13 Oct 1904 Where gone - Subsidy to Mrs W Hill of Walkerville ?
