Thanks Sue. I don't know Edward's mother's name, as we only had his father's name from the marriage certificates and no mother's name was given. I know some births at that time weren't registered, but it's so hard not to be able to find one. Just means that the search stops with him, unless I can find his parents. There was a family rumour that he ran away from home as a child/teenager and then went to sea and worked his passage to England. Some say that he also changed his name but we don't know what from. If he wasn't originally a Kelly then that makes it impossible to trace him back. But we have no proof about that. When his wife died 12 babies later he married a catholic woman and switched back. I wonder whether your Edward may have been adopted by the Kellys for some reason?
