Without joining the Tasmania list for this one-off, may I ask if there are records of assisted immigration there? Samuel and Mary Watters and three young sons John, Thomas and James arrived there in or about 1853, originating from Ireland but possibly embarking at England or Scotland. I understand they were sponsored by Jocelyn Thomas of Northdown, which is at Port Sorell near Devonport. I have records of sponsored immigrants to NSW where tremendous information is recorded relating to the sponsorship, and hoping that applies to this Tasmanian immigration.
