First mentions of the hotel at TROVE (digitised newspapers) appear in the early 1870s. In 1873 someone was advertising for a baby to 'wet nurse'. Also, around that time, and named 'Zanoni', was a racehorse, an opera singer, and a book titled 'Zanoni', a Rosicrucian tale (published in the 1840's and still advertised and popular in the 1870s). An Augustine Salvatoria Zanoni (born Genoa, Italy; died Queenscliff 1911) and wife Elizabeth (children's births all registered at Queenscliff). A Richard Megarrell was the proprietor in the early 1880s http://www.picturevictoria.vic.gov.au/site/yarra_melbourne/NorthFitzroy/15143.html The Fitzroy History Society may be able to help?
