Given the time frame between marriage and Ellen's birth I'd look in other states too. Purchasing the marriage certificate would confirm his marital status. Sue, Thank you for the message, I have a lot of different spelling for Jane McGowen, McEwan is one of them. I did find some births in the NSW index but no Ellen. But then who is to know if they are the right family. I have found some family trees too, with different records. I have Ellen's burial, but nothing I can prove for the Jackson family so far.
