There are several of my ancestors who paid their way and I have never found which ship they came on. You have lots more luck if they were convicts or were assigned to work for someone. Sometimes you can get lucky with a newspaper article (particularly country newspapers) on an obit or wedding announcement etc and find out from that more information.
