He had a brother-in-law Daniel VAUGHAN He was a carter, living in Wood St, Hotham Name: Arthur Hamilton Spouse Name: Bridget Oshannessy Marriage Place: Victoria Registration Place: Victoria Registration Year: 1866 Registration number: 512 child: Name: Mary Hamilton Father's Name: Arthur Hamilton Mother's name: Bridger Oshanassy Birth Place: Melbourne, Victoria Registration Year: 1868 Registration Place: Victoria Registration number: 17647 Name: Mary Hamilton Spouse Name: Daniel Vaughan Marriage Place: Victoria Registration Place: Victoria Registration Year: 1868 Registration number: 2962 Name: Mary Hamilton-with Arthur HAMILTON Estimated Birth Year: abt 1844 Age: 19 Arrival Date: 15 Apr 1863 Arrival Port: Melbourne, Australia Departure Port: Liverpool Ship: Southern Empire Nationality: Irish so we can rule this Mary out!!!! I had a look at your Tree online and see Mary Jane would have arrived about 1858 if she had been here 48 years..... but if she was only 21 when she married, her birth date would be about 1844 have you seen Hector's 'Letters of Administration' record online?? He was a farmer at Crossley ...let me know if you need the link...it wasn't finalised until 1887 Mary's Will is also there - you may find the childrens' as well - I haven't looked that far..you should also be able to work out which children survived...Mary Jane was illiterate...as she could only make her 'mark' rather than sign With regards the people Mary Jane H was boarding with in 1861 - I found some more info - they are Alexander McGREW who married Elizabeth DAVIS 1850 in Liverpool - he died 1881- they didn't have any children it seems I have just waded through all the passenger records again - this time for a time frame rather than a name..and found these: Name: Miss Hamilton Arrival Date: May 1859 Arrival Port: Melbourne, Australia Departure Port: Liverpool Ship: Marco Polo Nationality: English Name: Miss Hamilton Arrival Date: 19 Jul 1857 Arrival Port: Melbourne, Australia Departure Port: Liverpool Ship: Royal Charter Nationality: Scottish "SS Royal Charter" left Liverpool 15/5/1857, and arrived Melbourne 19/7/1857- there were 400 passengers The passengers are listed in The Argus, but no initial: Monday 20 July 1857 No record on Pro Vic that I can find for this ship :-(( That ship sank in 1859 with a huge loss of life - many were men returning to England from the goldfields and had pockets full of gold found this : Name: Jno Mcleod Death Place: Penshurst, Victoria Age: 48 Father's Name: Mcleod Hector Mother's name: Mary Jane Hamilton Registration Year: 1918 Registration Place: Victoria Registration number: 14299 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1870 No will found Cheers Jocelyn Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
