Clark sold the hotel to Mr William Bannister in 1878, who built uip the business and eventually sold to Sweetnams in 1900. Not long afterwards a new, two-storey building with a spectacular verandah plus a tower was erected and named the "Maffra Hotel". Over the years the verandah deteriorated and was ultimately removed. The building and its licence however still remains. Currently it operates as the Maffra Community Sports Club. .... also from google: http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~ausygs/p89.htm hope this helps a bit!
