Hi Everyone, Wellington Shire Heritage Network is delighted to announce that the Wellington Shire Council has provided $4,000 of the $7,300 necessary to have the Gippsland Guardian, published at Port Albert 1855 to 1868, placed on Trove. This is Gippsland's earliest newspaper, predating the Gippsland Times, which is up on Trove from 1861. Many of the early Gippsland residents came in first to Port Albert, then moved up onto the plains and the goldfields. Maffra and District Historical Society has guaranteed to lend the balance so it can happen as soon as possible. So we are out fundraising.
