This is so exciting. Thank you Jocelyn and Jackie for getting me this far. With your help I have cracked the wills and now can start to unravel the family. I thought I would be stuck when I saw Agnes being given away at her wedding by a father who didn't have any children! Jocelyn, in your message you say that Benjamin married Margaret McKissock in Victoria in 1873 but in the will his daughters are 'reputed'. He married Charlotte Bassano in 1854. Over here 'reputed' means illegitimate but acknowledged by the father, is it the same in Australia? Do you think they got married and divorced or am I looking at bigamy? On the marriage details of Agnes her mother is given as Mary Hepburn nee Hepburn, it doesn't say if she is actually there and I suppose it would be tricky for him to travel with his second family. I have been doing family research for nearly a year now and this is the first time i have found anything so exciting. I have to go to a meeting now (work gets in the way of family history) but I will be back to do more later. Many many thanks Alison Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
