I don't know why Malcolm, the son who reported Catherine's death, should have though she came from Inverness when she didn't. They're more than 100 miles apart, though it's an easy route by road or canal up the Great Glen. It may be that Inverness was the initial port they emigrated from, presumably first going to a bigger English port. I never found the name of the ship they were on, though thanks to my long-standing error I was looking too early. There was a boom in emigration to Victoria in 1851 because of the gold rush, so there were lots to choose from. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
