Author: Sad_Mushroom Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.oceania.australia.vic.general/11037.2.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi, Doesn't matter which custom called for people to be called by their middle name...when looking for deaths etc,, parents names are always needed to 'make' the connection...Especially when the surname may have been changed/misspelled etc. I find it more of a custom when a child has the same first name as one parent,,either the child or the parent is called/known by the middle name....to save confusion. Were his brothers (who were naturalised) older or younger? Wilhelm might have been covered by his mothers naturalisation...((although he may have just not bothered,,,unless he wanted to own land or vote)) I'll have to go back and read what has been posted already.
